Me too. That thing was glorious when you were used to crappy tape players where most of my music was recorded on tape from FM radio. I remember going back and forth from 107.5 (later moved to 94.5 of course) to 101.5 and as soon as I catch a song I wanted to hear I'd press record. Going from tape record FM broadcasts of what is now classic rock like Pink Floyd which was my first love to listening to Smells like Teen Spirit on CD blasting on a brand new AIWA was like winning the lottery. Also my first actual CD player was a tiny handheld Sony that me and my Brother shared. The AIWA was my big Christmas present. That thing rocked.
So 3 decades later this guy is still just a baby chasing a dollar. Also, there are some rather dubious music takes in this thread.
I was on the music review / music direction staff at KTRU when Nevermind arrived. We all were psyched to hear it, but then knew pretty fast it was going to be huge, and too huge for our playlists, which were supposed to be, you know, quirky and less heard. That first listen w a group of us was pretty fun. It was like, oh, this is the moment grunge will enter the chat for most people. The only other similar experience was when the Cypress Hill album arrived and we all loved it but knew it would be super huge.
Most definitely! And I'm sad to say... proudly so at the time. The things I used to mix together... lord have mercy, to think that went out on the air over the area it did. But it was really fun mixing with vinyl, and still making 8-track public service tracks using scissors and scotch tape.
Dragon Beaux in Richmond is legit but I want to check out Rich Table on Gough Street 99ers are worldwide bro
I miss KTRU. Used to listen to it from 5:00 to 8:00 every night at my part-time job about 20 years ago. The playlists got weirder and more dissonant as the week went on...Fridays were out there. Can't imagine what kind of obscure experimental stuff you guys were spinning back in the 19th century.
Dude got butthurt because he tried to reach out to the band to be a part of the anniversary stuff and they basically snubbed him. He's been re-shooting the photo his entire life.
