Images like these just show you how big of scum the right wing truly is in America. We have thousands of brave american soliders at harms work doing gods work and the right wing scum take the opportunity for political jokes while the enemy is watching. It always baffles me to see how closely aligned the trumpers and right wingers are with literally every facist regime in world history.

All the right wing scumbags on foxnews were yelling for sending 10-20k troops to secure kabul which would have resulted in thousands of deaths. The US army hasnt even been able to secure the road that goes from the embassy to the airport since 2018. The ARMY tried this in 2009 when they send 100k troops to secure baghdad and it failed. The right wing "Conservatives" are nothing but a resistance party who has no care for American lives. Its all propaganda non stop

Yea..it was the right move. You want to house them for the rest of their lives? F that. War is over. POWs go home.

Taliban were always going to retake the country if we left. Moving the military out before shutting the embassy and getting all civilians out was dumb. Getting out is 100% the right move. The execution of said maneuver was/is dog doodoo.

The military was already moving out for the past year. This narrative has been played out with people just speaking from their ass.

How about releasing potential Taliban fighters the size of 1/4th the entire US Marine infantry population after we have moved out with all personnel and Afghan friendlies?

Kabul didn't fall a year ago.... so what immediate impact did they have? The US military presence was holding them back from taking the remaining major cities. Bagram closed early July and the Taliban started their final push. You think they roll into Jalalabad and Kabul if we still had Bagram... HELL NO...

    Soldiers...healthcare personnel...essential workers.

First in line to be sung high praises, only to be chewed up and spit out by Cons because they don't want to foot the long term people costs of their mercenary policies.

Still have a few generation of vets who will need America's support and trillions of taxpayer dollars long after our bases and weapons are swept away by the shifting sands.

Except Obama would not have the balls to withdraw at all. Obama would cut a fine figure and would spin things better.

I will be curious if this really damages Biden at all. In the short term he is getting negative press but I am not sure it will matter in a month or six months. A lot of Americans just wanted out of the Middle East and Biden did what Trump and Obama and Bush didn’t do.

Depends how shitty it gets in Afghanistan in the next weeks/months I suppose. Those scenes from the airport are already going to get the Saigon treatment. Still a lot TBD I think.

Outcomes range from Taliban keeping up this “new image of the taliban” front indefinitely to “Clarissa Wards head on a pike.”

Yeah, it's always been about the economy. Things have been looking extra bubbly on the asset front.

Fed unemployment stims will end on Labor Day and the whole forebearance thing is coming to a head soon.

Covid is already extending OOO work in large tech companies till at least 2022.

Supply chain woes and intl. shipping costs are still rising, so prices will be higher from supply limited goods as well as potential inflation cues, which should be good in theory, provided that people can afford it and pay those prices...they might not be able to.

There's a lot of things a shitload of more money earlier this year can't cover.

Surprised the dumptruck talks have been stalling more from internal Dem bickering than Republican obstruction. Good ol moderates v progressives know how to shoot themselves in the foot and still write a check to pay themselves for it.

I don’t think it will. The right policy with bad execution of it. We will soon move on to more pressing and important things and are happy we are no longer there.

While republicans and their right wing news sources (facebook, youtube, bloggers, fox and oann) are positioning this as the "worst military fiasco of all time"...

I have to wonder, when the evacuations are over will we start an air strike to take out the US assets that were taken by the Taliban? Getting to Afghanistan will now be logistically harder since we have no close friendlies (I think) so the closest approach would be from an aircraft in the sea

Serious question: had a dozen or so Afghan people not made the decision to try to hold onto a wing of a jumbo jet that would ascend to 20,000 feet thinking they could survive that trip, what would the media coverage of the withdraw be today?

How many people are killed daily due to war in the Middle East? Afghanistan alone? How many have died at the airport during evacuations?

Living under Taliban rule will suck for Afghans. However it’s another repressive, religious fundamental, brutal, and corrupt regime in a world filled with autocratic regimes. We have our own problem with that here in the US where 35% of the country celebrates Putin and wants to live under Christian Old Testament Sharia Type law.

The world sucks and it especially sucks in the Middle East. But I see this whole episode as Americans getting frantic about flooding in the Amazon when their own house is taking on water.

This will probably go down as like the most successful military/humanitarian airllift of all time, not that you would figure this out from reading the NYT.
