Augustin is not getting minutes. Can we be realistic. He's 33, short & has lost a step. He didn't get Rotation minutes last year & he won't this year. He's either bring bought out or sitting at the end of the bench playing if we have a covid breakout or injury issues.
What are you talking about? He got 20mpg last year as a Rocket - apart from the times he was, erm, "injured". Played pretty well too. But you are probably right that he doesn't play much this year. It is looking very much like Wall will be here, so DJ probably only plays the back to back games (where I am assuming they are resting Wall)
If we are trying to extend House, looks like line up could be Wall (30) / PorterJr (18) PorterJr (15) / Gordon (28) / Green (5) Green (22) / House (16) / Nwaba (10) Tate (28) / MartinJr (20) Wood (33)/ Theis (10) / Sengun (5) PorterJr to play a good chunk of point minutes It would not at all surprise me to see Green off the bench the first few games - maybe starting House or something. Sengun will probably get sub 10mpg the first few months Christopher and Garuba playing big development minutes for RGV Just a guess. But seems like they are happy to try and win games, hence build value in current vet stocks. Do this while developing KPjr and Green, and things look good. Sengun might be a guy who comes on next year, patience with bigs is essential! Win some games, get a return on those vets we all want to dump, that is a huge win
Am I the only one that thinks playing Green at the 3 is a mistake? He'll be giving up 30 or 40 lbs on the guys guarding him/he's guarding.
He will play when Wall sits. I still expect him out on b2b’s. I can’t see JC getting time at the point over Augustin. If we’re looking to vets for leadership I would think he’s a good guy to have.
It would make sense to start Gordon if the goal is increased trade value. At the moment Gordon is a better player, too. This is not a bad lesson for Green to learn. Maybe it will increase Green’s desire and make him more mature. Our goal should be for Green to be a two way player or watch the game from the bench behind Gordon because he is. Starting a talented player off slowly with expectations is right way of developing; complete skills and makes better long term players. (think about the Morris twins) Let the youth play regularly with as many minutes as they can handle —> the vets playing time down should help their overall play, too. The youth movement should be to take the playing time from the veterans. Start: Wall, Gordon, House, Wood, & Theis. All have payed dues to be where they are. Make the youth earn the playing time and starting positions and rotation spots. TWO WAY PLAYERS ONLY or get spot minutes for spot work. The season is long…
Re-signing Boogie is funny… The rest no so. We should START the season with a line up similar to that. We should END the season with the youth in starting roles with clear expectations —> If not then Silas needs to go. The season is long… Lots of things will & should take place during it. Stripping the entitlement from the next generation will go a long way to their development years for now. Our goal is to grow as individuals and a team. Some of the veterans will catch on with another team that needs immediate help.
Wall (30) / KPJ (12) / Green (6) KPJ(18) / Green (20) / Gordon (10) Gordon(18) / Nwaba (18) / Martin (12) Tate (24) / House (18) / Martin (6) Wood (30) / Theis (18) Something like that if everybody is healthy and we don't make any trades Minutes Wall/KPJ/Wood - 30 Green - 26 Tate - 24 Theis/House/Martin/Nwaba - 18 Augustin/Thomas/Sengun/Christopher/Garuba/Brooks/Hurt - 0 Trading House would make a lot of sense to open up minutes for everybody, to give the end of the bench a little more oppurtunity But the reality is, we had a LOT of injuries last year and all it takes is one player going down for House to be really useful.
He's going to be guarding the opposing teams PGs, or whoever is the smallest player on the court for a couple of years. Wall/KPJ/Gordon/Thomas/Martin/Nwaba/House all have over 30 pounds on Green. DJ Augustin is the only player on the roster that would push Green to guard a 2G
OK then the turned stones better be playing time over vets. Im not interested in seeing House and Wall in heavy minutes.
I really hope we get to see Sengun getting minutes but I'm not sure how that's going to work out with Theis and Wood. I don't think Sengun and Theis can ever play at the same time, but Wood and Sengun should be fine? As a lot of people have already pointed out, we have too many guards, but Jalen Green at the 3 is probably not a great idea, but we might not have a choice. It would be nice to get rid of some of these vets because they are definitely going to block the development of our younger players.
The only thing I would say is that it feels like KPjr earned his spot last season (possibly Tate as well). KPjr is entering his 3rd season - often that is the 'breakout' season for players. Worth pushing hard this year
