Not what you asked, but my preference was the Hinch era because it was just so much more fun. We all know if they were to play in the playoffs against each other the Dierker era team bats would be ice cold, so I'd vote the Hinch team.
This is a tough one. I know one era lost in the wild card series every season and the other era has made 4 straight alcs appearances and 2 WS and 1 championship…but In a best of 5 Johnson pitching games 1 and 5 could be problematic for the current Astros.
We got shutdown by Sterling Hitchcock lol. As much as I love Bags and Biggio, they were worthless in the Playoffs.
What are the parameters: 1. A regular season game or a playoff environment? 2. Playing in the 'Dome or MMP? 3. One game playoff or a best of 7 series? #1 is half joke, half serious considering how underwhelming the Killer Bs performed in the playoffs while Altuve, Springer, Correa, and co. always came up clutch in the playoffs. #2 would probably even out the playing field as more balls would be put in play because of the slightly longer porches #3 would be critical because I would take Randy Johnson over any of the pitchers name in a one-game do or die without hesitation. If it's a best of 7 series, you can't lose with a JV, Cole, Keuchel, LMC, Morton rotation. I am curious on your omission of Oswalt from your starting rotation for Team Dierker though.
BTW, if we are doing a battle and it's specifically to see which era/team can give up the fewest runs Team Phil Garner is pretty formidable as long as Albert Pujols isn't making a cameo plate appearance.
I was *this* close to make a Hitchcock compare as well, but didn't want to put that on DK, Cole, LMJR, or CFM. Oddly enough, CFM might be the better approximation to Kevin Brown with his heavy breaking ball?
You may be right on CFM. It's definitely close which is high praise considering how filthy Brown's was.
I was at the game when Pujols hit that HR. It was literally like a funeral. Only other sporting experience that I can compare it too was when the Rockets blew that huge lead against GS. I rented a suite for our company to witness that.
Oswalt only had his rookie year under Dierker and was used in the pen half that season. Plus, he was hurt in the postseason.
I was at the Warriors game too, it doesn't hurt so much because we all knew what the final outcome would be.
