As a Wolverines fan I can confirm this. Harbaugh was brought in because he was the quarterback whisperer but he has not been able to develop a single one as the best he can do is transfers and even then the results are average.

The same way I thought Donovan Peoples Jones was much better than a 6th rounder last year where the Browns took him Collins going in the 3rd round after sitting last year in what are now always going to be deep receiver classes says a lot about his potential. He was talked about as a first rounder before he opted out so the talent is their.

Fellow Wolverines fan too. I've been beyond disappointed in Harbaugh. He's done nothing with a lot of talent and is way to set in his ways in terms of offensive schemes. I never thought Howard would have the basketball program in better shape than Harbaugh has the football program. Here we sit though.

    Spot on.

What kills me is I can't quite place it in terms of what the issue is. I don't think its a matter of the game has passed him by. And while we don't get Buckeye type recruiting classes, we consistently bring in a large amount of 4 star recruits with a few 5 star guys sprinkled in. And we have been doing a decent job of turning out pro talent at other position over the Harbaugh years like receiver and D-Line.

The only thing I can settle on is that he was overrated as a QB guru. I think Andrew Luck's success at Stanford and being drafted 1st overall has stayed with him for far too long because he has had multiple shots at it in Michigan and ends up relying on transfers because he doesn't trust any of his recruits. And in the meantime Ohio State keeps turning out QB after QB with their last two not only having great success in college but also both were 1st round picks.

He's not a good QB coach and you're spot on on him riding the laurels of Luck. Literally anyone could have coached him. I liked McCaffrey but he never really got a chance before the concussion. Patterson was meh. His play calling is abysmal. He's far too content to run the ball up the middle twice and settle for third and long.

You hit the nail on the head on him not trusting his recruits. If I was a top player I certainly wouldn't go and play for him.

Texans camp stock report: Is Shaq Lawson in danger of getting cut?
    https://theathletic.com/2783603/202...port-is-shaq-lawson-in-danger-of-getting-cut/

Through two preseason games, the Texans are undefeated, their passing game is struggling, and their defense is producing takeaways in bunches. That’s just like last year’s team, right?

As of this writing, the roster consists of 84 players. The Texans will need to trim it to 80 by Tuesday afternoon, when the second of three roster cut deadlines arrives. The team then plays its final preseason game Saturday in Houston against the Buccaneers before putting together its initial 53-man roster.

With training camp winding down, here’s a look at who’s shining and who’s in danger of not making the team:

    Stock up

    Charles Omenihu

This can’t start with anyone but Omenihu after his performance Saturday, when in just 19 snaps he recorded two sacks and recovered a fumble to give the Texans offense a short field for its only touchdown drive.

Omenihu was effective in a variety of ways. He beat a tight end off the edge for one sack, got free up the middle off a stunt for another and penetrated the pocket as an interior rusher when Jacob Martin forced a fumble.

Defensive coordinator Lovie Smith is playing Omenihu as a defensive end on early downs and kicking him inside in passing situations. The Texans will rotate their defensive linemen a lot, but on Saturday and throughout camp, Omenihu has made a strong case to play as many snaps as any of them.

    Jacob Martin

The Texans’ transition to a 4-3 has required Martin and other outside linebackers to become defensive ends. The fourth-year pro said he added 10 pounds to prepare for the change and now weighs 252 pounds. That added weight hasn’t appeared to lessen Martin’s speed, one of his best assets. He’s been one of the most disruptive pass rushers during camp, and his first-quarter strip-sack of Ben DiNucci on Saturday kicked off a turnover party for the Texans.

On the play, Martin sped by the Cowboys’ starting right tackle, sixth-year pro La’el Collins.

“It’s like a homecoming for me, being able to put my hand back in the dirt,” Martin said earlier in the week. “I was at Temple for 3 1/2 years and played true defensive end, and I’m a lot more comfortable playing defensive end rather than outside linebacker, honestly. So it’s been nice, real nice, to get back to that.”

Even with the added weight, Martin is undersized for defensive end and vulnerable against the run. But based on how Smith has deployed him in the preseason, it appears he’ll remain in a situational pass-rushing role similar to the one he held during his first two seasons with the Texans. On the strip-sack, Martin came in the game for defensive tackle Vincent Taylor as part of Houston’s nickel package (five defensive backs). Whitney Mercilus rushed from the opposite edge while Maliek Collins and Omenihu were the defensive tackles.

    Vincent Taylor

Taylor, a fifth-year pro on his fourth team, has started both of the Texans’ preseason games. That doesn’t mean as much as it would if he played a position that rotated less frequently, such as safety or inside linebacker, but it still indicates that he’s in good standing to contribute this season.

Another good indication: the Texans’ decision to cut nose tackle Brandon Dunn earlier in the week. Dunn was a better fit for a 3-4, and his contract structure, which required the Texans to eat just $500,000 in dead money upon releasing him, made him a cap casualty. He only became more expendable thanks to encouraging camp performances from Taylor, rookie Roy Lopez, 2020 second-round pick Ross Blacklock and other interior defensive linemen.

Taylor, a 2017 sixth-round pick of the Dolphins, is on a one-year contract worth up to $1.5 million with $600,000 guaranteed, making him far from a lock to make the team entering camp.

“When I was with Miami, that was kind of the same defense (as the Texans’),” Taylor said. “It was an attack defense, and that allowed us to play fast. That’s what I really like about the defense.”

    Lonnie Johnson

The 2019 second-round pick has been an interception machine in practice lately, and it showed Saturday when he picked off a DiNucci pass and returned it 53 yards for a touchdown. It was his first takeaway in any NFL game, regular season or preseason.

Teammates and Johnson himself have said the former cornerback is playing more instinctually in his second season at safety.

“He’s continuing to buy into it more, and all it is is experiencing reps,” fellow safety Justin Reid said. “… The more reps and experience he gets, the better he’ll get at seeing things faster, and he’ll be like, I’ve seen this play before and know I need a fit here.”

For now, Johnson is still the Texans’ No. 3 safety, behind Reid and Eric Murray. But Murray was a major disappointment in his first season with the Texans after joining the team on a three-year, $18 million contract. If Murray struggles again and Johnson continues playing as he has, the latter could climb up the depth chart.

    Stock down

    Shaq Lawson

Lawson played 36 defensive snaps Saturday, the most of any Texans defensive lineman. He saw the highest total of reps — 13 of them, to be exact — in the fourth quarter. The 2016 first-round pick also played well into the third quarter of the first preseason game, but according to Pro Football Focus and TruMedia, he is yet to record a pressure on 18 pass-rushing opportunities, most of which have come against backups in danger of not making their teams.

The Texans didn’t give up a ton to acquire Lawson from the Dolphins. Miami dealt the edge rusher and a sixth-round pick in exchange for a seventh-rounder and off-ball linebacker Benardrick McKinney, who likely would have been a cap casualty if Houston hadn’t found a trade partner. From that perspective, the Texans made a low-risk bet at a position of need on a player who recorded 18 QB hits, four sacks and four tackles for loss last season, Lawson’s first with the Dolphins after he signed a three-year, $30 million deal.

But as part of general manager Nick Caserio’s cap maneuvering, the Texans converted $7 million of Lawson’s 2021 salary into a signing bonus, prorating that money onto their cap over the life of his contract. The team added two void years to the deal, through 2024, to spread the hits out even more.

In short, Lawson’s job might be secure despite his underwhelming play.

    Tremon Smith

The Texans’ decision to trade cornerback Keion Crossen to the Giants for a sixth-round pick earlier in the week looked like a vote of confidence for Smith, whose defensive playmaking in camp and special-teams ability put him in position to be perhaps the final cornerback on the 53-man roster.

After Saturday, the Texans have reason to be a little less confident in Smith. The Cowboys picked on him in coverage, and he received two pass interference penalties, one of which moved the ball 26 yards on a Dallas touchdown drive.

    Geron Christian Sr.

Laremy Tunsil is out after testing positive for the coronavirus, Marcus Cannon is yet to practice, and Charlie Heck is only playing right tackle in the preseason while Tytus Howard transitions to left guard. That has left Geron Christian Sr., drafted by Washington in the third round in 2018, as the team’s starting left tackle. He struggled Saturday.

In the first half, Christian failed to hold his block on a Phillip Lindsay run, resulting in a loss of yards. He later received a holding penalty, and a blitzer blew through the B gap, between the left tackle and left guard, on a third down that ended with rookie quarterback Davis Mills getting called for intentional grounding. It’s impossible to know for sure whether that final play was Christian’s fault, but regardless, if Cannon is unavailable to start the season, Christian might be a shaky option as the team’s swing tackle.

Could this result in Howard’s being moved back to tackle if necessary and the team leaning on a backup interior lineman, such as Justin McCray, in the event of an injury?

    Kahale Warring

There isn’t much to say about the disappointing 2019 third-round pick because he didn’t play much. With all of the Texans’ tight ends available for the first time Saturday, Warring received just four offensive snaps, down from 14 a week ago against the Packers.

It would be shocking if Warring made the 53-man roster. His Texans career will likely end with three catches in seven games.

Hopefully he can have a year like he did his rookie season. He was borderline pro bowler that year.

That’s what all good coaches should do during the season. Hopefully the meld philosophies with Casserio about how to re-build this team. This is obviously a multi-year re-build. I hope Casserio is up to the task. It does look like he is going to get our cap in good shape in short order and we can build with a mix of good draft picks and FA’s. We are going to suck for at least 3 years and probably longer, in my opinion.
