Agreed. Should have handled retreat a lot better. A lot better. But glad he had the courage to take the blame for GWB's mistake.

I said in another comment that one of the unfortunate drawbacks of Biden doing the withdraw is now the right is going to revert back to their war hawk natural instincts when one of the only benefits of Trumpism is that his rhetoric, key word 'rhetoric', was anti-interventionist. Since he's a cult of personality they fell in line to that rhetoric.

Nobody is saying that. If you’re going into some place and gained the trust of the people you supposedly helping, you fuuked it up and then turned right around stabbed them in the back and slander them, do think you will have any friends left?

If you’re going to do something, do it right the first time, if not, get F out or don’t go in at all.

Actually he's doing a great job of exploiting how full of Sh$t the Republican party is. They literally stand for nothing. Name one topic they wont turn on a dime for if it means scoring political power, and money.

Is there any doubt that Republicans wouldn't flip a switch on even abortion if it meant more political power? I could see the "freedom" to choose being held up as some righteous newfound right they want to fight for if it meant scoring a political point.

There are is no shame or depths of hypocrisy they will not jump into for power and money. It's would be funny if it wasn't so incredibly sad.

After he blamed everyone but the taliban, he said the buck stops here. I guess that is considered taking responsibility. I will reserve judgment until after a nine eleven style commission issues their report. If 45 is responsible for Babbits death then one must question who is responsible for the 7+ deaths at the airport yesterday.

This is speculative reading into Biden’s psyche but I’m wondering if Biden feels that there really isn’t much more for him to accomplish and won’t be around to see, or hear from many later presidents he’s willing to take risk of being “the one who lost Afghanistan.”

He might be thinking that history will look back kinder upon him for being the one who finally brought US troops back even if it was done poorly.

I would’ve like him to take more responsibility for what is happening in Kabul and his defensiveness was the pet of his speech I had the most problems with.

Everybody wants the band-aid to come off, but nobody actually wants to take responsibility for ripping it off.

Everybody wants the omlette, but nobody wants to actually be responsible for breaking the eggs.

Not saying that Biden wouldnt have shifted the actual responsibility to someone else if he could have managed it. He just happened to be the guy without a chair when the music stopped.

Everybody knows that Afghanistan is a dead end, but nobody wants to be responsible for ending it. They'd rather just kick the can ad infinitum.

I'd prefer if we'd been able to help the people who hitched their fates to us, but I know how evacuating 100,000 Afghans cutizens to the US would have gone over in congress.

Everybody wants a resolution, so long as they don't actually have to take responsibilty/blame for what actually occurs when they make it happen.

Bush, Obama, and Trump all could have had the chance to "do it right" had they wanted to, but all prefered to play "kick the can".

The admin is doing a good job claiming that everything is going well. If they say it enough times, many will believe them. Heck, I am starting to think that this is exactly how they planned it.

What do you imagine the goal of this plan to be?

People are saying Biden is doing a good job, maybe the best job that anyone's ever seen.

This. Its not a binary choice, of course biden is a part of this and the withrdrawal should be handled better
but thats a surface level thought, trump obviously is on record...LAST MONTH...braggingabout how he set this in place to the pont that it was too hard to slow down and he made a great deal with the taliban and hopes they keep killing 'terrorist'(which is what china, burma, or america or saudi or israel calls peple they want to kill for a blank check)

So I'm not a big fan of biden's history or handling of things, but i give him props for above. Each president, be it obama or trump put their 'legacies' into play first and foremost bc this was going to be messy, it was a terrible idea from the start, but we have to clean it up. Props for biden to taking the hit and not passing it forward. He doesnt do much right, he got that one right and shame on all the other politicians putting their bust in capitolhill above the priority of doing the right thing.

It's too bad his first year fell on the 20th anniversary. He wanted to meet the 9/11 date for a victory lap. If he had more time, the withdrawal could have been planned and executed better.

They still could've planned this whole year for evacuations, they could've set better infrastructure. In my mind no doubt biden is apart of failed execution here, but the main domino and first one which if you heard rest of trumps july speech, he was optimistic of the taliban..go figure.

And then further more of course bush and obama too, who passed the buck on to protect themselves, so even biden did execute terrible, trump as usual was fast without thinking it through on the depth and intricacies, and then the silver lining is biden said he wouldn't keep passing it forward and now taking the inevitable hit of 20 years, trillion spent, millions lives...only to have it revert to pre war.

We need to be looking at all the pundits, who sold us this war and then pretended to be against it...all the politiican who voted for the blank check of this terrible idea, how much tax payers got funneled into militeary arms dealers and how much tey spent on lobbying for it to do so. these people have been saying no to american infrastrucutre, but had tirllions for stupidly thorughout out war to even the populous who doesnt have all the info they have...and if you read the internal talks in the afghan papers...bush, obamaa, trump they all lied...all the generals had no clue what they were doing, we just kept spending billion on trillions todouble down.

I'm for new politicians...all around the spectrum and less incentive to make this abotu your 'legacy' 'career' and just make soudn decisions for the people while you're there and move the F along.
