Some serious idiocy. Those fans challenging Artest and Ben "QuestLove" Wallace. Wallace's hair could have given them a beatdown. Artest built like a tank but one with screws loose in the guidance system. Artest, after the fight, to Jackson: "Do you think we'll get in trouble?"
Who do you guys think is an actual good fighter that played in the nba? Anthony Mason? He looks like he could throw down in a ring.
Rondo is good at spitting. Draymond can get your nuts. Those are two guys I can think of on top of my head.
It was weird how much time they spent on Jermaine O'neal's career, I found it interesting as an NBA junkie, and it gives context, but didn't really feel like it fit, focusing on Artest's young life would have been more interesting and a better fit IMO For example, random Artest story What are the odds of the beer thrower being identified by the prosecutor remembering him as the guy who used to bang his neighbor, lmao
In hockey we'd call those guys antagonists, not enforcers. Enforcers are the guys who go after those guys.
What a collection of explosive personalities on those two teams... Rasheed Wallace, Ron Artest, and Stephen Jackson are three of the most volatile players in league history. Jermaine O'Neal and Ben Wallace are in a tier just below them. To put it in perspective, RICK MAHORN, a legendary bad boy from his days on the Pistons, was playing the role of PEACEKEEPER in this melee. Truly a night for the history books.
Newfound respect for Artest after hearing what he went through in life. On a side note, I remember him killing it in the playoffs for us when he got us past the first round...man feels like yesterday
I think Alperen Sengun can stand up to Draymond Green. Alperen definitely is a Alpha Male compared to Clint Capella being a completely soft player against Draymond, Clint has 0 IQ in passing, post up, midrange, 3 point shooting. Clint Capella is a Raw, Flawed Player.
agree. first its the refs. ben wallace two armed full force shove to artest already warrented for them be thrown out the game and escorted to the lockers the wallace was still allowed to keep on coming at artest and postuirng throwing a tantrum and stuff around he simply over reacted to a normal no-layups foul which detroit is known for the minute someone thre a bottle security/staff should have been all over the guy
In today's Time there is Air Cupping on the Head to cure Anxiety. Back then it was only pills and no way else to improve mental health. David Stern didn't care about any of the players health. Basically David Stern is a business man. Run these players into the ground. Kind of like race horses, use them and then move them to farms. NFL concussion, mental health is even worse.
They didn't touch on this too much. Ben Wallace carried on for sure and got his punishment but if the douche fan doesn't throw his beer, not even sure Wallace gets suspended more than a game or two for shoving Artest and throwing a sweatband. Don't really recall the Pistons players doing much else surprisingly. Even remember Rasheed Wallace playing peacekeeper somehow even after Artest went in the stands and then being like, oh **** do I help my fans or NBA brethren. He was totally conflicted and just froze for the first time in his life. He really didn't get involved much somehow. Interesting they pointed out that one of Ben Wallace's brothers died about 10 days earlier. He missed 2 games to attend the funeral and this fateful game was his 2nd game back. Definitely seemed like he was annoyed with Artest's foul (which really wasn't that hard) but there was obvious intent in a 15 pt game with under 1 minute left to play. Wallace wasn't having it and was likely still emotional from the past week of grief. Still none of it would have been remembered if that douche didn't throw his beer. Even Artest was calm and being contained. Honestly makes me sad for him that he was basically doing a mantra and calming himself down on the scorer's table although this was seen as a sign of disrespect from Pistons fans. Just such a crazy turn of events with the right mix of drunk fans and NBA personalities that stand up for themselves when they feel threatened and/or disrespected. Not apologizing for them in the least but it was almost like destiny the way everything played out. One thing they barely touched on was that the starters were still in the game with a 15 pt lead under a minute left. Pretty much twisting the knife at that point with 2 of the craziest, temperamental players in the NBA. Carlisle should have taken all of the starters out but didn't which further incited the Pistons and the fans IMO. Obviously no one could have predicted what happened next but nothing would have happened if Artest is out of that game and Tinsley doesn't say that "he has a foul to give".
Agreed, but even Rasheed Wallace was the calm one in all of this and played peacekeeper as well. Didn't even get suspended if I remember correctly and was a buffer between Artest and Wallace.
If anyone wonders why Artest is the way he is, just read this story. I recall he said this young basketball player was elite too and would have been one of the best. If this is one of the things that he witnessed, there's no telling what other things he has witnessed in his life. Just sad but glad he seems to be getting the help he needs. I thought it was interesting how he called himself a coward for leaving the Pacers. Any type of non-violent conflict and he just runs away because he doesn't know how to handle it.
Yes I am sure of that too. If Artest really played at this game in New York or was there he would have been 11 years old. Wouldn't surprise me if he was there but also wouldn't surprise me if he thought he was there but actually just heard about it from his buddies that were there.
