are you familiar with afghans history, this aint our first time there. And we're not the only country that has ravaged it for decades. But those people have been fighting from all angles for decades and its funny when we point to them to see what they did for themselvse and don't consider imagine if our country was having daily attacks from other angles, in chaos with everything being shot down the people with the most arms like taliban are going to propser and here who would in chaos? Nonetheless, we had to get out. There was no game plan, go read the afghan reports of how interanlyl they were confused on what went down.

Anyways, thats great biden has regrets, thats really touching and good for him, I guess...this isn't an indicment on him as a human, this is on hiring the best public servants. Thats what I don't understand, there are so many people with a record of bad decisions and those are more costly to the peopel who hire them, we need to get different decision makers after the level of cost. would you hire anyone after they try to go in on something that lost trillions and millions of lives and has pushed for other aggressions too and sadly even domestically. So naturally looking at their track record will matter and biden has a long one:

-He was kicked out his first presidential run in the 1980s for plagiarizing, and flat out lying on verifiable facts and his resume.

-Go check how he was towards anita hill

-Go find out his history for pushing for more bombing of iraq. this was not one bad vote, there are speeches on youtube cspan you can see him call for more of that in many circumstances and coutnries, he was a reasonable hawk

now that above is sadly common place in our political class, but he is also hawkish domestically. He was the most outspoken push of the crime bill. Till last year he was talking about mar1juana as a gateway drug. People don't look at it like just about stoners, its an economic matter that also cost us millions of lives, billions of dollars. Its lke alcohol, people can see it as a health issue, doesnt' mean we need to spend hundreds of billions for the DEA to pursue it as well as cops, that cost tax payers terrible use of time when there is other more higher priority crime. Imagine your family member or close loved one going to jail for a drink, you're whole trajectory changes iwth that. we lose them as a tax payer and then instead we pay 30-80k per person to house them in a place hwich is known to be terrible for someone who made a non violent crime. Then when its legal you also cut funding for gangs which is unregulated drungs...over all economics wise, it makes sense. but they stillhttps://www.politico.com/newsletters/transition-playbook/2021/03/30/high-times-at-1600-penn-492299 and keep in mind these laws are something obama and kamala laugh about, but they were able to reach their potential and lives while other kids don't and the ones who really get stuck in the cycle are also typically low income and minorities. Sadly that track record isn't good for kamala as AG in california either.

-I mean I'm not trying to make this some partisan thing before you say that. I think trump is terribly embarassingly unfit for htis office and watching jared and ivanka all essentially run multiple facets of the country on their whim was the saddest thing in this this countries leadership since King George's Monarchy. https://twitter.com/davidmackau/status/[IMG] grift maybe best put by Trump's Chief of Staff as "playing government" made for instagram bullshit, as is hunter biden's is blantant and embrassing to our checks and balances system as is the unchecked abuse of lobbying( speaking of, biden would fire employees for past marujiana use, but he will goto bat for a lady who physically pushed a journalist for asking hilary abotu the war vote and bragged about it, after preaching he'd turn the corner from trumps terrible handle of media too.

so no, he doesn't inspire much. A dog could've been better than trump, the guy may be sociopathic. But biden's track record to me say at the very least take that 'experience' enjoy a cabinet postiion and learn from your mistakes, you still get to fly air force one, still live well, have access to allt the fun, but maybe for american tax payers after givving so much trillions of resoureces to your decision making, we let omeone else make that final decision. That goes for Pelosi, Mitch, Abbott, Newsom, and frnkly far too many positions of things that affect our daily lives like judges, cops, etc etc. Its not about them, their legacies, or whatever the news somehow sells us the perspective....this is about hiring effective management to oversea our trillions in tax resources and you have the privelege and responsibility of all the power and resources it comes with. Make it more efficient so that we can get things done and that doesn't mean fire everyone at one mistake, that means if they show a pattern of bad decisions at hte top, why not move them elsewhere their more useful and give someone new a chance ust like we would to manage anything. not spend time debating for their surival and legacy, look at cuomo he was known for corruption, the guy lied about the nursing scandal and that too me was the biggest issue but they almost gave him an oscar and he wrote a book at the time, it took accusers to make him step down not lying to the american people. lkewise with trump, the guy is on record verfiiablly lying its unreal to see people think hes the 'truth teller'

They used all our deomestic talking poitns to try to alienate muslims and recruit that america wants to kll them. It fell right into their recruitment and thats what so many damn generals were trying to tell people, but the poltics gotta place to their base and common enemies simply work man.
but those folks have been attacked and in fight fro decades, from us, from so many oter countries. and once again we left it in shatters

that is what it is, but yea bidens track record here or with wars is utterly terrible. And trump was a motor with nodirection be it him constnatly lying about health plans, trying to take the air force one to north korea territory on a whim, or lying to the people while theactual recording with bob woodward who he said he did bc he respected, so notice how differnetly he talked to the people he respects andh onestly vs his own followers who maybe hes quote saying he lovves the 'poorly'educated while bragging about his own and he knows he can break a law as he said in fifth avenue and he wont lose a vote. people just point fingers, we could use new and better leadership top to bottom, regardless of party.

LOL biden should resign? You mean when trump was golfing in December with covid raging did you whine then? When he raised 300 millions in December to fight the fraud and over 70k AMERICANS died did you cry then?! We've spent 90 billion dollars on training the Afghan army and they didn't even fire a single bullet. It's insane how your partisan rot has clouded your judgment. There's nothing biden nor trump nor Obama could have done to change outcome. Taliban have safe heavens in Pakistsn and their intelligence agency the ISI. This was never a win able war. Americans live in a bubble that we always win and things are good.

Biden had the balls to pull the rug

Biden is absolved of his failure because we are writing alternative realities with no evidence. Case closed. Let's go look at picture of Biden licking down some chocolate chocolate chip.

It’s on him as he’s President.

How long and wrong has the US been about Afghanistan and the ME in general? It's why 7/10 Americans want us gone from there since 2016. Trump ran on it in 2016 and he and the RNC were highlighting their great deal with the Taliban in 2020, agreeing to withdraw all US and NATO troops by May 1st this year. People seem to forget that the common view was the Taliban intends to stall negotiation with the then Afghan gov until all US and NATO troops withdraw so that they can have a decisive victory over the Afghan gov. There was no negotiation and there was zero leverage to have one. If there was any leverage to have one, it was when the US was negotiating the deal with the Taliban, but Trump didn't involve them as part of the deal. What we got out of the deal was no attack on US personnel and no more harboring of terrorists. There has been no attack on US personnel since the deal. The afghan gov and people were left on their own.

If they could do the withdrawal execution over, the one obvious things were to speed up the visa process (UK also has the same issue) and move the 10s of thousands of people helping the US and Nato before the military withdrawal. But let's not fool ourselves, that still leaves at least 20M women and children back. We can certainly blame Biden for the execution of the agreed deal, but the way the Afghan gov fall is squarely on Trump not letting them in on the table during the negotiation for US withdrawal. The RNC knew this - they wiped away their awesome deal from their platform yesterday. And let's not forgot that Obama continues the war and Bush fk it up with distraction toward Iraq in '03 (2 years later, in '05, 16 years ago, the Taliban was back).

In about a month from Biden's announcement you can see the country break down and the Taliban support SURGE (check the map in the link). Biden gave them the strength they needed to pull of a complete anaconda strategy around Kabul. Before Biden, they didn't have nearly as much support and it is clear they would have had to respect a power-sharing deal with other powers. This is not a pass the buck issue. This is an obvious L on Biden's part because he didn't anticipate that the people there would react so strongly to his dishonestly. He should resign. A great evil has been allowed to take complete hold and floods of people will suffer.

The worst part of this is this outcome was inevitable. Trump would’ve pulled out just the same, it was his deal.

    Damn you, CRT!

Former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo falsely asserted on Sunday that President Joe Biden had put the U.S. embassy in Kabul at risk by focusing on critical race theory instead of foreign policy.

If Trump is to be believed, he would have pulled out months earlier per the terms of his deal with the Taliban. He can claim now that he would have forced all parties to comply with all the stipulations of the deal, but there’s no reason to think he would have been able to do so when the Taliban knows he’s eager to pull out. But we know Trumpers will uncritically believe whatever he has to say — it’s a cult.

Republicans seem to be far more occupied with “critical race theory” than Dems, from what I can tell.

I was listening to John Bolton on NPR and he was tearing into both Trump and Biden for how this unfolded and he even was digging at the NPR reporter about how the Taliban does not give a **** about the international community and there is no reason we should ever recognize them as the legit rulers of Afghanistan.

How can this be on anyone but George W? I get that Biden is president now but this always was going to end like this. I’m positive he’s the only president who actually thought it was a good idea to send a standing army and install a new government.

Obama and Trump knew it and that’s why they never pulled the trigger on pullling all the troops out because they knew this moment would be horrible politics. But it’s also good politics to say you believe we should leave the Middle East. So there’s obviously a lot of hypocrisy with Americans in general who b**** and moan about “forever wars” and then go all ape sh$t when bad people on the other side of the world aren’t taken out by Chris Kyle or Mark Whalberg.

We cannot let everyone we know here have it both ways. We already have North Korea and Iran to deal with and now we will have the Taliban led Afghanistan. That’s just life now and always has been.

But we have our own issues at home people cannot lose sight of. Also why are the folks on the right not happy that we’ll now have infinite military assets available to focus on drug cartels and human traffickers in central and South America that are the root causes along with climate change for high volume of border crossings?? Most of the special forces and contractors will surely have more work ahead of them.

It’s a f-ed up world and we have our own death cult here in the US to deal with. I feel sad for the people of Afghanistan but in the end it’s their fight. We have our own nation crumbing from our own death cult.

There was no good solution to this just potential bad choices. Obviously we don't know what intel that Biden had but it's clear to everyone that the Afghan military wasn't capable. Given that a precipitous withdrawal probably wasn't the best idea but something more drawn out that as you note given more time to get the visa situation addressed and more of the people who helped the US out.

This is why there really isn't a political alternative. This is failure of Biden's strategy but the other party is obsessed with culture war issues and relitigating the last election.

    This is just simple projection.

All the Rs talk about is the evils of CRT.

They then criticize the Ds for spending all of their time talking about CRT.

I can believe that Biden is haunted by Afghanistan and that he legitimately wanted us to get out. I also agree that we couldn't stay indefinitely. The problem is how you extradite yourself. Listening to his rhetoric about how there wouldn't be helicopters taking people out and that the Afghan government wouldn't collapse he either was getting bad intel or wasn't being honest. The signs were all there and as such this process shouldn't have been rushed with a symbolic deadline like saying we're going to get out by 9/11.

No one wants forever wars or seeing US soldiers fighting a lost cause overseas. We still have a responsibility to the people of Afghanistan who risked their lives because they believed in us. The US has abandoned other allies recently and if we want people on the ground to risk their lives for us we should be trying to save them than just cutting our losses and leaving them to their fate. This isn't just the right thing to do morally but important strategically.

If we leave the Afghans who helped us to die we will be worse than the laughing stock. Following our abandonment of the Kurds in Syria leaving Afghan allies will mean we can't be trusted.
