Not passing the ball is not an "everyone has flaws thing". Its a not knowing basketball 101 thing thats why its concerning. Again no one is asking for passing between the legs with the curve no one is even asking him to throw lobs no one is asking for no look passes. Its literally just give the ball up instead an early contested shot over 3 players.
Ok you know how to give up the ball how come you werent taken 24th instead of JC? The point is ad nauseum JC's flaw is his tunnel vision and bad decision making. If he was unselfish and took better shots in college he wouldnt be there at 24 he would be taken earlier. You keep saying its bball 101 well JC doesnt have that bball 101 thats why he slipped 24th despite his other gifts. We hope he matures over time but right now he isnt that. You keep saying others dont get no you dont get it change takes time if you a ball hog all your life you wont become a great distributor overnight. Its gonna be up to the coach to leverage his strength while minimizing his weakness while JC is still growing and developing.
If you're the coach you should give it to Segun so we can see what he has. They had no problem giving the ball to Jalen and they have no problem giving the ball to Christopher so to me that is bullshit and an excuse.
If Josh doesnt have bball 101 he should not be in the draft. Its already been confirmed that its coaching so it makes sense now.
"but they don't want to bend their approach" is the approach to have players taking turns playing ISO? a competent reporter should have followed up what was exactly meant by that I can understand if the "approach" is to have a full view of everyone's strengths and weaknesses during this games so they can plan on how to maximize the strengths and rectify the weaknesess
Nah he is still in the draft because other than his bad decision making he has few flaws. He has working J, extremely athletic, has passion for the game, has a big body and length for a guard and is still extremely young. He also has defensive intensity and is already a plus defender. Other people like Hurt or Keon Johnson arent ball hogs but lack the stuff JC has thats why JC is a better prospect than them even with non pass tendencies. Passing is a skill it can be learned. You cant teach height, defensive intensith and athleticism.
One thought on the Euro's. I suspect they are used to playing on well drilled un-selfish teams in a quite different version of the game. I imagine there is a lot of confusion/frustration with how the game is being played during Summer League. Once they get into the team environment and have a bunch of practices with team focused teammates, things will become easier for them.
If he has few flaws other than bad decision making he can still pass the ball and i think thats what youre not understanding. There are plenty of people who have tunnel vision but still manage to get assists because they have the ball so much. Literally he would either have to be ignoring the coach or the coach would have to suck and we found our answer. At this point the question is, is he even coachable? But now we know he's not even being coached.
Watching the past two games shows how special of a talent Green is. You can tell the offense runs way better with Jalen on the court even when play making is one of his weakness.
Well, that midget they brought in sure was a ball hog and utter trash at it. Hope he's let go before Game 5 so I don't need to watch him pretend he's James Harden.
Really? What did you expect from a young defensive specialist that played overseas? I loved the pick. But I knew he would be what most expected for a year. Thats good tho. We dont need him rn
I agree. But Rockets were still getting their asses beat even WITH Thriller vs. Raptors. Weaver failed to adjust. Other teams adjusted to the Rockets but Weaver was unwilling or incapable of doing the same. Just a meaningless SL game(s) but Weaver is also Silas right hand man in charge of defense no less, and we all saw how coaches failed to adjust in close games last season. Or even games Rockets held a lead and lost it.
Yeah, it’s not like Hakeem took a decade to figure it ... oh wait, he did. Then he won two titles in a way no big man before him could have conceived. This is easier said than done. What you’re talking about is 10% information and 90% experience and personality. There’s a difference between when Michael Jordan should pass out of a double team and when say Brandon Ingram should pass out of it. MJ taking a shot against 2-3 people may sometimes be a better shot than passing to Luc Longley on the perimeter. I would be highly disappointed if Green was not egotistical in game situations. Save that for the role players. If Green is a superstar, this won’t be an easy decision for him imo. If he’s closer to average, he won’t have the character to scrutinize age-old ideas. Mind you, there’s nothing wrong with a young person testing well-respected ideas, geniuses don’t learn by instruction, they learn by trying to invent. Also, some people flat out prefer to learn through failure than advice. That’s infuriating to the obedient, but it’s a waste of time and money to ignore nature.
Also want to add that there is a difference between unwillingness to pass and not knowing how to make the proper pass or when to make it. He isnt lookin to pass at all. Im not expecting him to be Hakeem. Ya'll are still not getting it. He just has to pass the ball no one said he has to have accurate vision. There's a difference i swear most of Clutchfans has never played a game of bb ball ever. In order for him to play like he is playing you have to refuse to pass. They are playing street ball so it makes more sense. But without knowedge of the coach basically giving them pt and not divising a plan he looks like he is unwilling to play team ball at all. With the benefit of the coaches comments we know they are just out there and not really trying to work on anything. Also Hakeem is a center so im not sure what exactly your point is there? To even bring Hakeem up or compare him at all to this situation is silly.
I hate this whole approach to the bball in USA that its 1vs1 game you have 9 people in the game watching one guy trying show off… and when the guy is Durant you can somehow understand it. But to watch scrubs like JC act like prime Kobe isnt something i would pay my league pass for
Wrote this on Reddit: Man. It really showed on the guys who don't have a confirmed roster spot. Justin Anderson was AWFUL. No reason why he thought he was a makeshift point guard trying to beat people off the dribble nor any reason for him to take a 40 ft 3 when no one was around the basket. Your just making your team mates do shuttles at that point. Sengun was good when he got the ball. A LOT of chucking though. Which can be forgiven given the uncertainty of these guys futures and probable minimal sets learned. Garuba was pretty lost too. Had a few great defensive possessions in there and found the open man a couple times but I think he will spend time in the g-league to start the season. Green and Sengun are the only guys IMO who should have rotation minutes to start the season as the current team is constructed. I love JayGup and Garuba but there are definitely things that need to be worked on which may just need seasoning in the GLeague until the trade deadline. As it stands (and since it looks like Walls going nowhere - thanks Clippers) our day one rotation looks to be: Wall/Green/KPJ/Tate/Wood Gordon/Nwaba/KJ/Theis/Sengun (with KPJ and Wall to share ball handling duties). That leaves JayGup, Garuba and Hurt in the g-league, House and Khyri as the next ones up, with Augustine and Brooks as a break in case of emergency situation. Thats 17 including Hurt on a 2 way. Somethings gotta give.
