Absolutely. Correa has had huge playoff moments for us and Springer had the single best played series I’ve ever seen in my life against the Dodgers (and overall great postseason stats). I love both players and in an ideal world we’d keep them both, but I understood letting Springer go because of age and money. I don’t want to see Correa leave too.
If he continues to ball like he is now, he will go to the highest bidder. Lots of hurt feelings can be solved with 300M. We are going to lose him, so we just need to find another great bat to replace him. It doesn’t have to be a shortstop. If we can get a great hitting everyday player we can afford to have a light hitting shortstop or maybe we get lucky and one of our minor leaguers comes through.
At least he will be booed mercilessly every single game he plays (with the possible exception of when he plays against the Astros) because, after all, he is a cheater and the fan base for whichever team signs him will let him have it every home game. Kind of similar to how Springer is booed during Toronto's "home" games. Oh....wait.....
I think CC could sign with any team and still get a great ovation from a MMP crowd.::except the Yankees..::if he goes there, which would greatly surprise me, his reception here would definitely be muted and plenty would boo
One game, a fan did yell cheater at a home game. But yeah, it was just 1 person and a 1 time incident so your point stands.
Does winning another title change things? These guys discussed last week. Sorry if this was already posted.
And considering they are not playing in Toronto, I'm a bit surprised if hasn't been more, especially considering they play in New York state.
Springer is pulling a Martin Gonzalez, playing like dog doo without the extra help. He’s dropped off a cliff. Ops is down 200+ and now he’s under .200 ba since getting caught. Not a good look.
They were in Buffalo tonight for I think the last weekend until they are back in Canada, and the Jays hit mucho HRs, 5 or 6 I think.
I’m admittedly not a numbers guy, and am against signing Carlos to a big contract if it’s to the detriment of the club, but I would be ecstatic to bring Carlos back at an 8y/240m clip, or something along those lines. If we have Showrea locked in, it’s a tad easier to move Pena or our other MIF prospects if they ball out in the minors. Such a shame Pena got injured at the outset this year, he could’ve been a centerpiece for some teams.
Scratch the Giants off the list of likely suitors for Correa... They extended Crawford for 2 years. https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2021/08/giants-sign-brandon-crawford-to-two-year-32mm-extension.html
8 years 240m is incredibly dangerous. We will have to sign Alvarez and Tucker to mega contracts. Correa will walk next year and as much as I love him, I’m ok with it. We can get 2 really, really good long-term assets for that type of money.
I love Carlos, but no one is worth that. Not one player who has signed for that kind of money has been worth it. They're just bad contracts (for the teams), full stop.
Most of these contracts are structured where a team under pays at the beginning and overpays are the end. If you look at the last few years, they are all almost not worth it. If you look at the value the player provided over the whole contract some of them look a little better. Looking down the list of big contracts, A-Rod’s (2001-2010) and Verlander’s (2010-2019) were worth it I’d say. A few others could wind up worth it.
