I went my old neighborhood over the weekend and most the younger black people don't care. Now the ones over 55 which I know very few of were all vaccinated or at least had one shot. The new generation doesn't give a **** about the vaccine unless it starts killing people off left and right...I suppose that includes mine too.
When that happens people start wondering why the government didn't do more or why they failed them. It's a bit maddening... Not sure how that knot is going to get untangled or cut anytime soon.
He is right, the virus can get through a mask........ but it does at the levels of not wearing a mask, which is viral load... and that is very important. How will it stop? A lot of people will have to die… I mean A LOT of people and that will cause people to be scared and get vaccinated and for a good 20 years drop the bullshit and do what needs to be done… we saw it happen after the Great Depression… and then WWII… it took people starving in the streets or the real chance of us all speaking German to make a difference….
That dude talks a lot of bunk. I'm pretty sure healthcare workers appreciate wearing masks of any kind during 10+ hr shifts, whether it be N95 or reused cloth masks out of necessity. Best explanation about multiplicative effects and masking I've seen is from Nassim Taleb, almost a year before Dr. Goober propped up his soapbox and vitamine shoppe. (6:20-9:25) Just speaking a non-Black person's 2 cents wrt the black community feeling like they're not being addressed or that the fears of the pandemic doesn't directly apply to them out of general mistrust. Because in the case where a lot of people do die. Poor communities and historically discriminated groups will be among the group hit hardest. It's very easy (and sometimes credible) to chalk things up to classism and racism as seen in the comments of that article. In fact, it feels like the standard operating procedure with history repeating itself. I'm pointing out that the public is more willing to address or focus upon this underserved tragedy in the making, but that the standard approach has to be changed. Just because vaccination rates among blacks is tangentially related to Implicit Racial/Ethnic Bias Among Health Care Professionals (like when Blacks complain about pain and doctors think it's BS because they assume the patient should be more tolerant to pain) doesn't really give Blacks a pass for not vaccinating as much as Trumpers. Nor is it really the government's fault.
https://www.npr.org/2021/08/13/1027296490/fda-authorizes-third-covid-dose-immunocompromised The Food and Drug Administration is authorizing an additional dose of a COVID-19 vaccine for certain people with weakened immune systems caused either by disease, medical treatments or organ transplants. The move comes after studies have shown these people may not have sufficient immunity to head off the more serious complications of COVID-19 after the standard vaccine regimen. “The country has entered yet another wave of the COVID-19 pandemic," said acting FDA Commissioner Dr. Janet Woodcock, noting that immunocompromised people are particularly at risk for severe disease. "After a thorough review of the available data, the FDA determined that this small, vulnerable group may benefit from a third dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech or Moderna Vaccines," Woodcock said. “We believe sooner or later you will need a booster for durability of protection," he said. "But right at this moment, apart from the immunocompromised...we do not believe that others, elderly or nonelderly, who are not immunocompromised need [another dose of] vaccine right at this moment."
A shoutout to Coach Lane Kiffin and the Ole Miss football team for getting 100% players and coaches vaccinated. The vaccination rate overall for Mississippi is 36%, one of the lowest in the country. https://www.msnbc.com/morning-joe/w...has-100-percent-vaccination-rate-118513221718
The (noun for a societally beneficial thing) overall for Mississippi is %(low integer), one of the lowest in the country.
Yeah well when the zombie apocalypse hits, they'll have some of the hardiest warrior genes available. Who's ready for some nuclear football??
Tracking Covid Vaccines by Race: Black and Hispanic Rates Lower Than White and Asian (bloomberg.com) A mini vaccination surge has followed the rise of the Covid-19 delta variant in the U.S., especially among Black and Hispanic Americans living in hard hit states. In five Southern states now with more than 300 cases per 100,000 people—Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Missouri—Black and Hispanic people are getting vaccinated more rapidly than White people. Over the last month, Mississippi saw the biggest increase among its Black population, inoculating 5.8% of that group compared to 4% of White people. Meanwhile, over that same time period, Alabama saw the biggest spike among Hispanic people, vaccinating 7.4% of that group compared to 5.1% of White people. Overall, in the last four weeks, states tracked by Bloomberg vaccinated 4.3% of Hispanic people, 3.7% of Black people and 2.6% of White people. Recent polls have found Republicans and White evangelicals are least likely to say they’ll get the shots, which may account for less uptake among White people in certain states, especially in the South, Midwest and West. Since cases, hospitalizations and deaths are now primarily among the unvaccinated, groups with less vaccine uptake are most vulnerable. Our tracker has data from 45 states, D.C. and two cities that cover 95.5% of people and 93.6% of doses administered, with race or ethnicity information available for more than 148 million vaccine recipients. ...
I don't know if this is going to help Russell Brand get work again. But if Dancing With the Stars is on hiatus, any port in a storm, I guess.
I feel people would care more if the virus instead of killing people, made people look terrible AF like a zombie or something.
Do we know yet what the fatality rate is for the Delta variant among the unvaccinated? Any projections for how many people might die in the coming months due to it?
