    According to the article:

And also on the list in this period that runs July 1-18 is trying to lure a couple of veteran free agents – Houston guard Moochie Norris among the first to visit – to Dallas with the $4.5 million mid-level salary-cap exception. And if necessary, packaging expendable point guard Howard Eisley in a deal.

    Do you think that means:

    a) The Mavs are trying to "lure" a veteran, and trying to lure Moochie first?

    or

    b) The Mavs are trying to "lure" a veteran, and Moochie will be the first to visit?

    Didn't read very clearly.

It sounded to me like he was just among the first to visit, not necessarily trying to lure him first. Here in the DFW area, the hottest deal the Mavs appear to be onto is a trade involving Eisley for Charlie Ward. I don't know how close they are to getting that deal done, but whatever they do, I hope they don't take SuperFro away from us!

Why in the world does Dallas want another PG? Is Steve Nash not good enough?

I see them looking to sign Tim Hardaway.

It sounded like Moochie was going to be among the first to have a look around.

Cuban was quoted in that article as stating that they thought they could get more than one player with the 4.5 million.

This would add to the list of possiblities:

    c. Mavericks are weighing their options, on how to best use the 4.5 million,

    d. Mavericks want us to use our money on Moochie to keep us from signing one of their free agent centers (Calvin Booth).

They're really looking for a backup or someone to split time with Nash. Nash is injury-prone and they weren't too impressed with the services of Eisley last year in Nash's absence. Moochie is as solid a backup PG as you can find today. I can see why they'd go after him.

I know that the Mavs have been impressed with Mooch the past year but that is the first that I have heard of them persuing him.

The names I have been hearing hear in Dallas are Charlie Ward for Howard Eisly or just signing Tim Hardaway since he is a Nellie prodigy.

Moochie does have some very similar qualities to another point guard that Nellie really liked, Robert Pack. Pack would still be hear if he could of stayed off the injury list. Mooch brings the same kind of quicknes and ability to callapse the deffense that Pack had and Mooch has no history of injuries. Also like Pack, Moochie changes the tempo of the game when he steps on the floor, another quality that Nellie likes.

This scares the hell out of me because if Cuban decides he wants Mooch he will throw enough money at him that it will be hard for Moochie not to except it.

    Howard Eisley’s Salary

    01/02 $4.78 mil
    02/03 $5.31 mil
    03/04 $5.84 mil
    04/05 $6.38 mil
    05/06 $6.91 mil
    06/07 $7.44 mil (team option)
    end of contract

Lots of $$$ for a back-up point guard. I sure Dallas will have to trade Eisley before they can sign Moochie.

Who wants a mediocre pg with a big salary? Unless they're planning on packaging him with Michael Finley, nobody's going to take him.

At least Cato is 7' [IMG].

If they are willing to pay Eisley that then surely they would be willing to give Moochie the 4.5mil exception that they have.

What is really scary is that back up point guard is the most affordable Mavericks weaknes to fix. The Mavs had their worst stretches last year when Nash was injured.

Maybe someone should suggest Bryce Drew to them. He is a similar to Nash.

Yeah, but Moochie won't leave all of his friends in Houston. Even if Cuban threw a lot of money at him, he isn't under the cap.

Sorry, I just can't see that much advantage of Moochie over Eisley. Yet, Moochie might be a bit better. But not significantly. And it's a bad roster decision to make one of them your 3rd pg when they're both still pretty productive players. Nothing to do with money.

If they could trade Eisley... maybe. But I can't imagine that happening.

I hope your right but Eisely did not play anywhere as good last year as Mooch and when Eisley was signed he was expecting a chance to be the Mavs starting point guard and has expressed an interest in going somewhere where he has a chance to start. Also Nelson and the Mavs front office were disappointed in Eisleys production last year perticularly when Nash was injured and during the play-offs.

The rumor going around Dallas is Eisley to NY for Charlie Ward.

    From DallasNews.com

I thought a team under the cap at the start of FA signing doesn't get a mid-level ($4.5m)exception. Is this true?

I see a couple of teams possibly chasing Eisley. Chicago, Miami, Toronto, San Antonio, maybe Philadelphia.

I watched Eisley a lot here in Dallas. He's a pretty good defensive guard, but can't break down the defense and is not a reliable shooter...that's why they probably won't re-sign him.

Moochie IMHO is the superior player. He can break his man down, hit the open jumper, and has incredible guts. Plus he's really the best pure point guard we've got. Not to mention his hair..........!!??!! In some strange way he embodies the soul of the Rox.

At the end of the day, Mooch will stay in Houston just like Finley will stay in Dallas. [IMG]

They don't HAVE to resign him, they have him signed for 6 more years.
