bought 3 today Franz Ferdinand - been meaning to but this for a while, certainly heard it plenty on my radio station... very nice catchy tunes Ryan Adams - Love is Hell really like this, wasn't sure about the last of his cds, but this certainly more raw, earthy and slower, very moody.... Gomez - Split the Difference Only listened to a few tracks so far, but like what i have heard... will add more about this after a proper listen this arvo
Hint: you're using it right now. The latest new CD I'm spinning is the Fiery Furnaces' Blueberry Boat. They play an odd mixture of blues and other Americana with a few synths, plenty of piano and wah-wah. The first record was fairly straightforward, but this one is huge and proggish, with shifting tempos and structures. These guys (brother and sister duo, actually) are opening for the Unicorns at Walter's on June 12. So if you're going to that show, get some Fiery Furnaces--they may even be the better of the two bands, as hard as that is to believe.
Those of us that follow the law and appreciate musicians do. < /musician rant > So you dig the Franz Ferdinand CD Smeggy? I've read a few reviews that aren't fond of it, but have a few friends that are. I might have to pick it up to decide myself. I really dig the single "Take Me Out".
Since iTunes, I rarely buy an actual CD unless it is jazz. Here is what my most recent downloads have been: Guster - Keep it Together Guster - Lost and Gone Forever Alanis Morissette - So Called Chaos Jonatha Brooke - Back in the Circus U2 - All That You Leave Behind U2 - Unforgettable Fire (getting a new copy of this - my old one got lost) David Poe - The Late Album Joe Satriani - Is There Love in Space? Steadman - Revive My next download will probably be: Juliana Hatfield - In Exile Deo
I bought the Franz album last week along with the two Shins albums. Listened to them all once, liked them, but (as with all new music) it takes me a long time to really get into albums. Something about older music, it's more IMMEDIATE. I also bought, among other LPs, a Martha Reeves solo album and re-bought "How Will the Wolf Survive?" by Los Lobos. So, the Franz album has been shelved for now, as I'm sure most of you would understand ...
I cant get enough of both albums. Interpol is so great. Franz Ferdinand has at least 6 great tracks out of 11. The other tracks are still pretty good though.
btw, has anyone here gotten into les savy fav? i cant remember the last band i got into this much. their live shows are un-friggin-believable. (the closest i can come to describing the music is maybe a cross between the pixies and fugazi. )
Well if you are talking about this one: That is going to be hard to do, considering it isn't going to be released until the end of next month. But yea, I'll get it since I have practically everything else by them including the "Join the Dots" boxset. Right now, I have been buying older stuff - filling out certain artists' catalogs such as Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and Blondie. However, I do have down to buy certain things (mainly indie stuff) - just don't know when I will again (probably sometime next month).
i was cd shopping on sunday and came very close to buying join the dots. ive heard its great, but what scared me off was the fact that 2 of the 4 disks are from later period...(early 90's to present). i love the cure and they are one of my biggest musical influences, but disentegration is the last album of theirs that i can listen to. i like mixed up (1990) too, but thats a remix album so it doesnt count. i saw the cure for the first time last month at coachella. set was about half new/half old. again, im a huge cure fan but i left a bit disappointed. set was lacking in energy (i know...its the cure) and it seemed very plastic and paint-by-numbers. might also have been that 110 degree heat that we had to endure out there in the desert. even w/ radiohead the night before, i was exhausted by the time they came on and that might have taken away from my enjoyment of the show. if you ever want to see a chubby 50 year old dude in makeup and teased hair than go see the cure on their current tour. oh yeah...cds - though i didnt get join the dots i did get 1) xtc-mummer - im the only xtc fan i know so i actually have to buy all their stuff rather than burning it from friends. good disk, but not as good as black sea or english settlement or skylarking. 2) warrior king-virtuous woman - probably the most uplifting reggae/dub music i have ever heard. great music and a great message of positivity, love and understanding - jah mon! 3) savath and savalas - kind of stereolabby/tortoise - female fronted spanish influenced chamber pop. dude from prefuse 73. if you like tortoise i would recommend - drummer from tortoise plays on this. an indie rock sketches of spain. saw these guys at coachella as well. 4) ghost - hypnotic underworld - japanese guitar psychedellia. from beautifully quiet soundscapes to fits of blistering brutality w/ hints of traditional japanese sounds tossed into the mix. if you like pink floyd than you should check this out (they even cover a syd barret song - dominoes). if you live in austin you gotta love waterloo!
I like every song on the Franz Ferdinand album. My favorite so far this year. Other recent purchases. Modest Mouse (Good News for People Who Love Bad News) - starts off strong, but then kind of fades off. I doubt there will be a better song than "Float On" all year. Beta Band (Heroes to Zeros) - Haven't really listened to it much yet. The Streets (A Grand Don't Come for Free) - It's pretty cool. It's way overrated, but interesting and unique enough to make it worth buying.
