Congrats. To think that I have been on this site (first as Lurker, back than I was afraid of joining the BBS, I didn't want to give my information on the Internet.... LOL). To think I graduated High school, finished my masters, got married, became a father 2 times all the while being a member of this community.. Amazing. And I still haven't met a single Clutchfans poster in real life.
We youngster. . . .we CONGRATS! Clutch! Rocket River Was there a usenet group or something before this official site . . run by Clutch also . . .
Definitely the best site on the internet. Not even close. I was late to the party, but I've had a blast here these last few years. Thanks for all your effort, Clutch, and congratulations for building something that provides so much Joy to so many people. Go Rockets!
I think by then we had outgrown whatever was being used previously so Clutch installed some big boy forum software. That, and we had had enough IRC fun to last multiple lifetimes.
Ahhh the .net days and me waiting patiently to have pages load for new scoops using dial up internet. Man I'm old
If you were on the old site from 98', you had to have a user name and you couldn't lurk without one. I was agrockets17 back then and when 99 rolled out we all had to create new accounts and the big question back then was whether or not you were going to change names. But lurking without a name became an option in 99'. I lurked for years. I know I changed names eventually and quite a few other did so too, but I think you kept your same name if I recall correctly? Keeley being on here is quite the blast from the past! Cracks me up that he finally said something and it was to disparage an old friend LOL. I don't know who said it, but someone said you couldn't keep track of the Rockets if you were out of town unless you were on clutchfans... it reminded me of my subscription to the Chronicle in Austin back then. I would read every article on the Rox back then. No Charles Barkley news was too boring... every word was read! Happy birthday Clutch City 97'! This is quite the ongoing accomplishment. I have not been to every fan forum out there, but I've tried quite a few and nothing compares to our internet home we have here. Thanks for nurturing this place into what it's become, @Clutch. Many praises and many more in the future. Who was the big name on here that anchored the Save Our Rockets campaign? Was it @Jeff ?
I used to post like five times a day or something. I’ve been trying to get back into posting more here. Here’s to another 25.
Thx for explanation. No I was on Rockets newsgroups until March ‘99, when someone posted cc.com, so missed out on ‘98 website/forum. I registered first with “batseye”, but forgot password over summer and re-registered with heypartner in Oct (both were bridge-playing names at yahoo). hell, I should try to guess the pswd again. Lulz
Best sports fan site on this or any other planet! Congrats on the success, Dave. Well deserved! I was a lurker for the first few years, mostly due to a hectic schedule. I finally gave in when we landed the #1 pick in the 2002 draft.
I met my wife in 1998 and she told me that, with the exception of the 2020-21 season, every year I would solemnly tell her that "this may be the Rockets year." I discovered Clutchfans around that time and it has been an essential part of being a fan of the team for me. Thanks, Dave and the rest of the people responsible for making this site so excellent for so long. Here is to 25 more years!
