clitchcity.com forever man. Those b*stard nba lawyers and their copyright infringement stuff. I remember thinking…”who the hell uses .net? This is gonna screw with the site.” But clutch made it work. A testament to the strength of the following of the site.
I still think the biggest intel bomb dropped on the site was when that guy walking in the galleria overheard that Steve Francis was coming via trade. Lol
I discovered the site around 1998 from a Yahoo search for Rockets news lurked on the forums till 2001 when I finally registered, and was consistently in my browser history every job since. Meet some awesome people through the board, most ended being good friends with and one randomly became a distant relative . Hell my current job is from a member/friend I met through here. Congrats on 25 years!!! #CFSummerLeagueCrew2012
HAPPY BIRTHDAY! Wow 25 years! I remember those early years quite well. It was the wild west on the internet. Didn't know the site had it's own Wikipedia entry. That's pretty cool!
It was site with a tilde in it, then it became clutchcity.com which Clutch's friend owned the domain name and sold to Rivals, then it became clutchcity.net which I think Clutch still owns, but doesn't use because of the rocket lawyers, and then clutchfans.net.
Wow, congrats on 25 years anniversary. Been a fan of this site, ups and downs. From Hakeem to Jalen Green era.
I was in Houston until 1995 before I came back to Indonesia, so I really experienced the Hakeem Era when I was a kid. As NBA and Houston Rockets are not the most famous sport and team in my country, This has been the site where I can truly interact with rockets fans (even if I am mostly only reading), which makes me still feel close to Rockets basketball as a fan. Thanks Clutch!!
Congratulations Clutch and Clutchfans! I'm a native Houstonian, a Rockets fan since childhood and a lurker for years before posting (so I encourage others to post and share their voice!), but this was by far my favorite site for Rockets news. It's has grown to a huge number of members all across the world and also helped shape Houston culture. Thanks again, here's to hoping new fans for this era get to enjoy it another 25 years.
Discovered the site somewhere between 2000-2002, but I was too distrusting of that whole internet nonsense to "join" the "site" - whatever the hell that meant. This is where I go to waste time. Long live CF!
Long time lurker before I registered. I think this was the first Internet site I ever signed up for and it is for sure the first non-work related site that I had open at work. So, thanks for the site and thanks for getting me to retirement with some semblance of sanity still in place.
keeley sighting! Everyone had to create a new account in ‘99, right? Or did they carry over?? maybe @keeley remembers the transition to the new db at the February start to the lockout-shortened ‘99 season.
