Most likely we have to do SF/Cat/Mo or Cato/TE for T-Mac/Grant Hill

We should be striving to win a championship every year.

I'd just try not to give away Mobley as well if we didn't have to, that's all. Things sound good on paper, but don't always work out that way. Heck, the Magic thought they'd be perennial title contenders and never got anywhere close. Sure, Hill got injured, but that's my point. The Rockets though Charles Barkley, Hakeem Olajuwon and Clyde Drexler would put them over the top, but that didn't work, so then they tried to add Scottie Pippen and that was a total failure.

That said, I guess you guys are convincing me. You never know until you try and it's not like the Francis/Mobley combo is taking us to the promised land anytime soon.

I'll jump on board. Francis/Mobley& Scrubs for T-Mac.

The only way I trade Steve Francis is if I get T-Mac but It would be HORRIBLE if we trade Cat/Mo T/and SF for him.

We need to be patient what if T-Mac says the only team he wants to go to is Phx and Hou? HMMMM...... but, he says he wants to play with Yao/Francis and if Magic dont grant him his wish then he would just walk (like SHAQ did in 96) they do not want that to happen. So what i'm trying to say is that we have to be patient and wait to this thing plays out. We might have a slight chance to get T-Mac w/out giving up Francis we have seen strange trades go down b4.

    but realistic thinking is
    Steve Francis
    Kelvin Cato
    filler(not CAT)

    for
    T-Mac
    Pat Garrity

When we have a change to get a player of Mcgradys talent you dont dick around and play it out. You go out and get him. Phoenix already offered Marion straight up. Who on our roster is better then Marion. While we wait it out and be stingy San antonio or phoneix could pull a trade because without Francis there is no way we get tmac. And if I were Tmac I wouldnt want to Play with SF, A tempermental point guard who likes to dribble and turns it over way too often. Tmac wants to play with yao not Yao and SF. You are making alot of assumptions about Tmacs value and what orlando can get for him. I think the bad guy in Under Siege 2 said it best "assumption is the mother of all fu*kups". While we offer MoT or Cato for Tmac orlando will just get marion or Ginobili. CD and Alexander know this thats why espn said we are going after tmac hard.

steve may have lost some value to rockets fans, if it's even possible for some of you to think any lower of him, but he can lead a team of scrubs to the playoffs in the east. he's certainly better than shawn marion.

That's a great point. Although TMac isn't a selfish player, he is used to touching the ball A LOT. You can't have two players on the same team who both want majority of the touches. Sorry, Steve's gotogo.

If Rox get TMac they will have given up SF. That is a given, is it not?

So why worry about how they would coexist?

I actually think Cat would do okay. Playing with McGrady and Yao, the question would be whether Cat can make key shots without having taken a lot. He'd get a lot of open ones, and lots of chances to drive to the hoop. Most important, I think he's got a good attitude and is a great team player -- if his sole job were to be the defensive stopper for the other team's best wing player, I think Cat would be happy to do his part. Maybe I'm too high on him, but every interview I've ever seen or read about him suggests to me that he's a good guy who cares about what's best for the team. If that means he needs to score a lot, he's happy to do it. If it means taking a back seat to McGrady and Yao offensively and becoming the defensive nightmare for the Kobes of the world, then he'd be happy to do it.

Whatever the case, I'd hate to see him go. I just think he's got an infectiously good attitude, the kind that always makes players around him play harder.

I love francis, i always said no i would never trade him, but i never knew we could land a deal inwhich we get tracy mcgrady. I would trade anybody besides yao for tracy. It sounds too good to be true. Kobe & Shaq won 3 championships, maybe another one this season, Tracy & Yao, although may not be as good as Kobe and Shaq, will do wonders. If this goes down, and we sign a few free agents, i truly believe that the rockets will be one of the elite teams in the coming years. Now wether CD will take a risk of trading francis and getting an injured mcgrady is questionable. luck has and has not been on our side. We did get the first pick and drafted yao, but we did trade richard jefferson, brian shaw, few other players for Eddie Griffin, who was...well im not going to go into that. But personally, i would do this trade anyday, lets just hope CD feels the same.

    Great trade indeed.

Two broken down players, for two of the most durable in the league.

Bare Bryant is a great player -- no disagreement there. But is he worth the cancer in the locker room he generates or the total schism in the Rocket fan base? No, T-Mac is worlds better for the team, for the fans ...for the record.

Xiki, your position is "win at any cost." I love to win, and I go for the throat in any competition, but, when it's over, I take pride in the winning -- or the losing. With Bare Bryant on our team there could be no pride...just the ride.

Bryant is an amzing talent, and has a 'special' mentality. Whatever is inside that head of his makes him even better than McGrady, Michaelesque, but also an unsympathetic personality to many of us. Me included.

Kobe is otherworldly and I am in awe of his skills. He just isn't likable.

If he is exonerated in Colorado (and not in the OJ/Ray Lewis kind of way) and he were available to Rox I would have to endorse him wearing Toy Shop colors.

I agree Bare Bryant is "mental." :D However, I certainly am not in awe of his skills or his mindset. I love your statement about his "unsympathetic personality" -- could that be why he is on trial? hated by his teammates? has to buy loyalty from his wife?

Hitler was a brilliant orator, but I wouldn't want him on my debate team. I feel the same way about Bare Bryant.

I would if my goal is to win. I don't agree with his views, but speaking wise he's one of the best this centry. Right up there with Clinton. It's the same with Bryant, I don't like him, but I'd love to have him on my team.

I suppose there are two mindsets at play here:

    1) "Win at any cost."

    2) "Having pride in your team, win or lose."

I go for Position #2 because I don't enjoy "hollow" victories. The Rockets and I moved to Houston in the very same year, and I have rooted for them as hard in the days when they were on the bottom as I did when they were on the top. And the players that I loved the most were almost always the ones that started out as Rockets and ended as Rockets (Dream, Calvin, Rudy T. etc.)

If I only wanted the joy of winning, I'd just look at the standings and find out for whom I am cheering today. No, that's not for me and it's not for anyone who has personal pride.
