There's a pretty obvious reason and I've been saying it for months. He's probably gonna make close to Theiss and either way we had his bird rights so we could've actuay signed them both if we wanted to. Highly doubt we didn't offer at least as much but

He chose to live in Detroit over Houston. Weird.

He chose to play for the perennially awful Pistons over the up and coming Rockets. Baffling.

He chose to work for not-Tilman over Tilman. Hmmm

So does this mean that the whole ‘Levert for Oladipo’ trade didn’t work out after all?

I don’t think they ever intended to bring him back, but they probably should have tried. Damn...

Even if the Rockets offered more money, he wouldn't have necessarily accepted it. I know Detroit seems like a lateral move, but they started their rebuild a few season before Houston and with Cade they can easily make the playoffs in the top heavy East this upcoming season.

Also, there is little incentive to him to help out with a SnT because Bird Rights are never going to factor in his future FA deals, he won't want his new team to lose assets, and it would Hard Cap his new team.

Our only leverage was if he wanted to go to a good team that was over the cap. Once he chose Detroit SNT was unfortunately no longer an option.

He's not quite the scorer and creator that Olynk is at 7ft. That will be missed and can't be immediately replaced as it's experience within the speed of the game that allows a big to play that way over time.

He was unrestricted and could choose where he wanted to go ....We had his bird rights meaning we could pay him more than other teams who are over the cap,

LOL, we got kelly only fans too. internet for the win.
that said, he was a rare bright spot in a terrible season, I wanted his style and approach to continue on with the rockets. Would've taken him and paid more over thies but not a bad backup given where we are.

I don't think so, in fact I think he played best under us/silas than he has his entire career. He was always known to shoot, silas gave him more responsiblity as a playmaker and he really flourished. would think he coudl take those and be much better with shooters like Green surrounding him where as in detroit they have hayes, cunningham as playmakers too

IT seems he just took teh best deal he was getting and unfortunatley we didn't offer more or went with theis.who is a better defender, also a decent passer but not like kelly and a decent shooter.

In the end, vets are important, but it isn't about em so their a bit more replaceable when it come to a team thats all about development

I kinda wanted him to stay. Not mad that he's gone. That draft changed everything.
