I think we all agree that having a super young team with no veteran leadership can seriously inhibit both team and player development. There needs to be some type of leadership on the team to guide the new generation.

I actually think Wall and EG are great in this regard. However, they're extremely expensive in this role and are young enough to still have value to competing teams. They're already in trade rumors and if a good trade is available, it makes sense for everyone to part ways.

If they're gone by mid season (big if for Wall), where will our vet leadership come from? Augustin will be here but I don't think he is that guy. Wood is here but still pretty young as well.

It looks like we will probably have to bring someone in. I imagine they would be a former solid to great role player who is in their last years and is looking for a final pay day. Names like Trevor Ariza, PJ Tucker, and Jared Dudley come to mind.

What do you all think? Do we need this? Who else can we target?

Good vets help the team in so many ways: off court coaching, installing and running gameplans, mentorship, etc.

I think former Rocket great Garrett Temple would be awesome. By all accounts a great guy and locker room/bench presence. Voted one of the likeliest to become a head coach, has played in the G-League, Europe, and like 11 NBA teams lol. Dude's experienced pretty much every level of the pro game.

Pat Bev. Expiring contract as well. Would try to trade Ego for him in some fashion.

I prefer bringing in someone with a winner's experience. I love Bev, but he hasn't won anything more since he left Houston. Would be great if we brought in someone like Rudy (now that Les is out of the picture), Horry, or Elie. Hell, I would even take Cassell.

Wall doesn't even wanna be here and EG isn't having fun anymore.

We need vets who actually wanna play here and babysit the kids.

I'm not talking about old ass coaches, we need guys who are in the league so they can relate to the players these days.

I love the idea of Theis (via SnT) and THT (via MLE). A much needed injection of defensive talent.

With KPJ, Green, Wood and Sengun on the team, we have plenty of offensive talent. A more competitive environment via some defensive specialists would help with our young guys’ development.

    Lol
    but are there any CF
that don't beleve we need veteran leadership
@tinman has been vocal that Ariza was a waste, heck if he was in milwaukee he'd be laughing while driving Larsy to the bank of the savings the guy in the backseat enjoyed while for some reason he enjoyed too from not trading for PJ tucker bc the team 'proved' it can't win the year before in the semis, why would they then win a title...almost lke the nba is slightly more complicated than that elementary math. He can read a box score and reads pj had 0, so he thinks he contributed 0 to a title or could. Lucky for milwaukee, we got tinman here in houston.

So we can go with some of these guys who devote their lives to baskebtall, or we could probably go the route of tinman and tilman and just try our best with basketball on a budget. LEts make sure the profit margins are good for the billionaire, critisize the millionaires even though we publicly funded Toyota center where they privately profit

I'm not sure which way you guys will choose. Some here sadly think tilman=Rockets and is above criticism ratehr than hes just the current steward and that this is Houston's team and we can let em know just like we can boo the team if they are not doing right, but there is a CCP mentality steeped in from Les or a 99er who might think nba eocnomics hasn't grown from the 90s when you buy in with less than 100 million, and now yo ucan't get in for less than a billion dollars...https://spacecityscoop.com/2020/07/01/chris-paul-trevor-ariza-costly-houston-rockets/

Some root for the budgets and the owners, some people are rooting for the team...they don't always coincide https://www.sun-sentinel.com/sports...sfl-miami-heat-mike-miller-s093014-story.html

Chris paul didn't win anything befroe last year

Bro, this ain't espn. Basketball isn't won 1-1, Chris Paul is a winner despite our owner saying he needs to learn how to step on throats, I'm going to go with the hall of famer on this one

Giannis was a choker last year, mvp losting in the semis 1-4....stuck with it and magic can happen

I 100 agree with you on Horry, ELie, cAssel, we need those role player winners, we need guys who have been great...bring all the veteran wisdom so these young kids know they got 10 year fast time to cuclminate their legacies and life works...it goes by fast, if they have the maturity and wisdom to build on, they acn be great

So yea, I think beverly has a lot ofer. he knows the grit of what it takes to compete in this level. He knows that if his shots not falling he can still contribute buy being a dog on defense and take pride in that. he knows how lucky it is to be in the nba bc hes been in russia. hes played high level games . He practices like he plays...now imagine J green dominating over whatever two bit bench player we get for the minimum...now imagine him being picked up by bevelry full court on defense with this guy willing to put his life on the line to stop you....which one do you want to have to prepare him for the playoffs? these things can't be seen, don't make headlines so guys like @tinman thinks they are worthless, but winners know. Real Rockets fans appreciate that elite, kenny smith, cassel, horry, otis thorpe, rudy t, carrol all even non headling moves or despite their box score all ccontribute and made the team whole for hakeem olajudwon to be great too. Its built on chemistry ,cohesion, culture, and atmosphere

People talkied about kobe being the hardest worker but hit his leaderhsip skills, when your best dude is outworking everyone...they all have to fall inline, thats the ulture. STephen Jackson said one time he wanted to go at pop for screaming at him, but saw duncan take it and not say a word and he knew he didnt have the clout. thats culture. It doesnt' have to be expensive, so that @tinman is more happy with our payrol, you can get nick collinsons and haslem on teh cheap. but we need vets to steer our young kings to greatness. no doubt about it

If you take more than 8 shots per game, you can't sit with us.

I do agree with you. Like I said, this is just my preferences. I personally prefer folks who have helped their team win championships in a meaningful way and as much of a fan as I am about Bev, I just don't view him as a mentor in that capacity. Sure he works hard and puts in a ton of effort, but so do others that in addition can speak to what it actually does take to help your team win at the highest level.

I wouldnt really go for anyone. Maybe Vanderbilt or Winslow. Personally Nwaba and Brown coming back would be great. Young veterans who can play and lead a bit.

    Wood/Garuba
    KMJ/Sengun
    Tate/Nwaba
    Green/Christopher/Brooks
    KPJ/Thomas

just think people shouldn’t be too worried about draft position. We will still lose plenty. What you don’t want to have is anything less than the BEST atmosphere for development.
