I have been following Sengun for many months now. Watched all his Olympics qualifier matches as well, wished his national team coach played him more minutes. But to start and get minutes at all on his senior national team as a 18 year old is already a nice accomplishment.
Unfortunately, the Turkish NT is no different than Cirque du Soleil at the moment. Coach is also a clown. Shane Larkin was injured shortly before the qualifiers and only Cedi Osman remained on the team as the playmaker. Nothing would have happened from a team where Cedi Osman was the first playmaker. In my opinion, Sengun lost a little bit of value in that tournament. In fact, I think that tournament had an effect on him not being drafted from the lottery.
I agree. But in 20 mins a game he still led the national team in EFF and +/- I believe, which is why I wished his coach would have played him more, they might have qualified then.
Your "full motion glory" video showed absolutely nothing other than the fact that his jersey over there looked like a Rockets knock off.
Not quite elite, but Daniel Theis does fit the overall mold here as an optimal compliment to Sengun's weaknesses, if anyone was curious why we signed him.
From a quick look at this clip, I am somewhat reminded of Luis Scola in terms of his physique and offensive skills.
When evaluating Sengun the key is what will or will not translate to the nba from his mvp season in T-BSL. One of the biggest points of contention from evaluators is his shot blocking, which is why the 4 blocks tonight (multiple vs Mobley) really stood out. He did get cooked a few times out of the pnr which was the big fear but that’s 2 or 3 out of the like 50 pnrs he was put in all night, he did not look unplayable at all on defense. Of course it’s one game in summer league vs Brodric Thomas and not in the playoffs vs Dame or Donovan, so we still have to see. The reason his shot blocking translating is so important is because he can play drop coverage instead of switching out to the perimeter where he will get abused. If his shotblocking is good enough for him to be a drop big then defense won’t be untenable. The other part of the game that stood out was his ft rate translating. I mean man lol, get ready for some no calls this season and I can’t even blame them because if the refs really called everything he would avg 15fta a game. Between iso scoring in the post, elite passing, and foul drawing, that’s the triumvirate that makes a heliocentric star big man.
