Both are Muslims and come from Muslim families but I'm not sure if either fasts for Ramadan. And apparently they're also friends and text all the time. Kyrie did it this year and his play didn't suffer. I remember Hakeem doing it as well. The next Ramadan is April 1 - 30, 2022
Sounds like nothing we should be concerned about the next couple of years. Maybe a good point for discussion once they are in year 3 or 4 and we are possibly competing for the playoffs or in the playoffs.
Not so much a concern as it is a point of interest. I like the idea of getting to know our players on and off the court so we can better understand them as people.
What kind of question is this? If it does anything, it seems to make players better according to their own statements.
Not insinuating it's a bad thing. My family fasts for Ramadan. I just think it's very cool we may have two young guys who share this experience together.
There are different interpretations of Islam. Some of them live the religion very radically and follow every rule, while others are more relax. Not every Muslim athlete fastings. Also, not everyone in Turkey is Muslim. I do not know about Alperen's religious preferences, but even if he is a Muslim, I am not sure whether he will fasting or not. For example, most Turkish athletes do not fasting during Ramadan in Turkey. The situation is different in ultra-Islamic countries. For example, most of the soccer players who come to Turkey from countries such as Algeria and Morocco fastings. Turkey is a little more secular in these . For example, I saw that the Turkish players in the NBA, Furkan Korkmaz and Cedi Osman, did not fasting during the game in this Ramadan. They were drinking water and Gatorade. By the way, fasting does not have a negative effect on performance. Athletes are already have pro-level endurance and their bodies can handle it. Also, since it's their freedom, I don't think anyone can say anything to them, even if they don't like it. I think the same for Garuba and I'm not sure he will fasting too.
Correct me if I’m wrong but when fasting you can still take minimal water to prevent dehydration? Also, at sundown you can eat so he will throw back some grub at halftime?
Cannot drink or eat at all from sunrise to sunset. Eat as much as you can before 5 Am, pray Namaz, ask Allah for forgiveness and ask for help in life choices. 5 am to 7 pm - timings change Mustafa Ali and Mansoor talk about Fasting in WWE During this month Devils become chained by Allah, to protect Human from committing a Sin. By fasting you are spiritually being closer to Allah and pray Namaz 5 times a day. Fasting helps clean out the body. Which is needed for Human Being.
Thanks for the clarification, it shouldn’t be a huge issue, they might have to play light minutes until the 2nd half. I could see an issue perhaps in day games during April, but those are pretty rare.
Fasting is actually a good thing for everyone! Intermittent fasting is a healthy trend that I adopted over a year ago and it's great. Pro athletes' bodies are such fine machines, I don't think 14 hours a day will impact them much, especially given how high tech teams are with nutrition and hydration these days.
