I think I am in some deep ****.

I got this mail from the County or whoever it is about Jury Duty. I put it on the backburner for about a week or two. I thought I didn't have to mail it in, or turn it to them personally til Tuesday, May 25th. It's friday, and I got nothing to do, no surprises there. I look over my mail, and other "important" things. It turns out I was suppose to mail it to them on the 19th, two days ago! And today is the 21st. I am in some deep ****. Somebody in my family said it was a $500 fine. ****, I don't have $500. Damn.

I still have this warrant from the City of Bellaire for like $250. Does anybody know if there is interest? Cause it has been a year and stuff. I am scared ****less to go to the Bellaire county courthouse or where ever, and pay the damn thing.

Does anybody know if there is anyway I can get around this jury summons crap?

I can say, I didn't live at home, I was at school and stuff. Or say some crap like that. Or I can say that my neighbor recieved the mail, and it was just turned into me or something.

    Any suggestions?

It's always nice to get an IM from the guy living in your old apartment, one state away, telling you that you've been selected for jury duty in a state you don't live in.

Um, was that out loud? Or coherent?

Are you mailing it in to get OUT of jury duty? If so, you cannot mail it in after the deadline. All you can do at this point is reset the time to go.

Just go. It's no big deal. I've gone half a dozen times and never been selected for a jury.

Yeah, jury duty is no big deal, I've goe around 10 times and selected once. Nothithg to worry about, the guy that we found guilty had a rap sheet a mile long and 2 years later he was murdered by a gang, not a problem.

If you're number isn't called by 3pm, they let you go. Last time I went, they called my number at 2:56. I still didn't get picked.

Advice? Take something to read. You'll need it.

Last time the summons told me to call this number at a certain time; when I called they would tell me to call back later, it happened once more finally I said **** it and never called again.

When you do go, be sure to use an obscene amount of racial slurs, insulting any and everyone in the immediate area.

Also, wear one of those eyeglasses/mustache/funny nose things and refuse to remove it, under any circumstances.

There's no way you'll be picked.

my mom too has jury summons for tuesday. i couldn't find any reason for her to be disqualified or except. but i have no doubt that she will not be selected. her reading, writing, and speaking of the english language is poor. although i could have checked that box, i was just concerned that they might question how did she get her citizenship 2 years ago. well, she can write checks and stuff but there's no way she's gonna understand what the hell the judge and lawyers gonna ask her. so, just to be on the safe side, i'm taking her. which only means a wasted day.

I was told one time that, since jury duty summons are not sent via registered mail, there is no way for anyone to prove whether or not you actually received the summons. If they call, and you tell them you never received the letter, then there is nothing they can really do. I'm not sure if this is true or not, and I don't really intend to find out when I finally get a summons, but it's just a thought.

They will send you a second summons if they didn't get your reply for the first. If they still don't get a reply for the second summons, they'll send you a notice which says you'll be fine $1000 and jailed if you don't report to some jury duty office in person.

How do I know this? Well, I got all two summons and the notice four months apart between receving each. And if you don't appear in person I don't know what they'll really do to you.:)

That's in NY, though. I'm not sure if it's the same in Texas.

I think they called my house to "arrest me."

But they don't want to do it like that. I think they are trying to fool me into coming into the station so I can get arrested there. I still havent cleared it up yet. I am going to say I go to college somewhere else, and just got back.

I am going to say I just got the letter.

I never understood why people were willing to tell so many lies, potentially criminal ones at that, just to avoid jury duty. Just go.

I was thinking about that. How can I prove that I was not here to recieve the letter, or I could say that they sent it to the wrong address?

Or I could just own up to it and say that I missed it and hope they dont fine me hardcore.

Would they be reasonable and not fine me hardcore?

Off topic, what's with these neighborhoods getting speed traps err police departments? Meadows Place LOL. Do they have a City of Meadows Place Courthouse? When their 3 squad cars are busy, do they call HPD for backup?
