He is a 2 way so he'll be here the entire season unless he gets cut. Rox only have 2 ways and used one on this dude, didnt even wait for SL. I think they are pretty high on him and expect him to contribute if this is the case. At the very least he addresses Rox no 1 need imo which is length and shooting at the SF spot. I meam if Duncan Robinson and Ryan Scrubberson can carve niches for themselves in the NBA then there's no reason Hurt can't as well.
Garuba? Sf 3nD wing defenders we have 2 guys Brown and Nwaba already. If you watched those 2 play you know they play hard defense. And Tate of course.
Whoever said he shoots like Larry Bird, I see it. That three pointer would be tough to block the way Hurt releases so high like Larry did. His post offense would actually work in the modern NBA because he doesn't really bang that much, he just takes high percentage shots from the high post. The moves are simple and effective. His first move quickness is there so you feed him and he makes his move before the defense can set up. That would translate. @Nook is right though, his defense is terrible. He doesn't go around the pick and roll very well. Switch him onto a guard and it's over. Only way he makes it in the league is if he can be hidden on defense for 3 or 4 minutes at a stretch. Definitely not a waste of a contract because of Garuba's potential on defense and recovering for Hurt. I could see him fitting with a Garuba/Tate/KJ Martin lineup. Add a good guard defensive player like Wall or Nwaba or Gordon... who knows... he might be pretty serviceable for a bit before teams figure him out. Scouting video on the Blue Devil himself:
He is a 2 way contract. Signing him doesnt affect signing regular guys on the roster like Garuba. 2 ways are GLeague/NBA contract hybrids that allow NBA teams to have 17 guys on their roster instead of 15.
I think the math has shown as long as you can hit 3s at a high clip you can be a bad defender and still provide lots of value. At the end of the day 3 is more than 2, they can dribble around Hurt for 2s all day but as long his shot is money the team will still come out ahead. Also Hurt is 6'9. Just comparing defense is he really all that bad compared to Seth Curry, DRob or Jamarcus Russell and Trae Young? I dont think so.
Vernz should def be no 1 prio imo. Maybe he ****ef up all his workouts or showed bad attitude cuz no nba team is giving him time of day (or maybe just offering 2ways and SL which he doesnt want)
Just sign Kyle Wiltjer instead of developing the next Kyle Wiltjer. I heard that Kyle has been playing pretty well in Europe.
