As far as fans are concerned, I think they were happy with what had been done already. Click could have quit right there and been well thought of by most. He didn't need to do another deal. But he did. And now many fans are a bit less happy. I am guessing that without landing that big TOR guy, it was thought that we needed to get just a bit better if possible. CF was the easiest and perhaps only area left given tax constraints. A Chas/Jake CF may surprise. Just not sure if its going to be a good or bad one yet.
I love all this: Bullpen sucks, gotta fix it....ok. Gotta Make Trades!!! This Trade is Awesome!!! Bullpen is Saved!!! This Trade is Very Good!!! Also Bullpen Help!!! Why Are There No More Trades? This Trade Sucks And Will Destroy The Season!!
It's okay if things fly over your head every now and then... not everything is meant to be understood
Nothing gets over my head, that's why I played 1st base in little league I've read this a few times, and I'm still not sure what you're getting at, lets talk more:
Out of this whole trade deadline, the happiest men in the room are Strom and Baker. They have bullpen arms to save our starting core from over exerting and Dusty shouldn’t be relegated to playing a Bielak or Raley. That in itself is a massive W. Our offense gets a boost, in Meyers, which is a clear upgrade over Straw. Click didn’t sell the farm and again just trades MLB ready players who don’t fit this current team.
Interesting deadline for the Astros. Bryan de la Cruz is technically the only prospect they traded, and he was re-signed as a MiLB FA. With the Straw trade they even added a prospect. They dealt from their strength of upper level players who are probably 2nd division regulars. The Straw trade is weird, I guess they really like Meyers.
Based on Baker's and Click's comments, it seems they were at odds at how much playing time Straw was getting.
Miles is a guy that gets on base and advances while McCormick seems to swing forcefully at the moment and striking out more often. We've all been witness to the adage of "fewer strikeouts and putting the ball in play leads to winning" philosophy over the years and I am not sold on McCormick to do that on an everyday basis. I know Meyers hasn't played a game yet so he may be just as swing happy sometimes but I'd rather he was called up to split time with McCormick to find that out and it looks like that is happening.
Allegedly, Jake Myers is a ++ defensive outfielder. Combined with how he’s hit in AAA, it may be worth giving him some run and seeing you get.
So Brantley in RF, Tuck in CF and Alvarez in LF tonight. Was hoping they would try this and see how Tuck and Brantley handle these new spots for now to see how it goes. This lineup tonight is nasty and will be even better when Bregman returns and when we play in an AL park.
I think a good comp for Straw is Willy Taveras. Willy was a slap hitter with a lifetime .647 OPS, and elite speed.
