    https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id...a-draft-pick-derrick-favors-utah-jazz-sources

Oklahoma City further added to its stockpile of future first-round picks as the Utah Jazz agreed to send a future No. 1 and center Derrick Favors to the Thunder for a future second-round pick, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday.

Before the move, the Thunder already had 12 first-round picks above and beyond their own -- some of which they can swap -- over the next five drafts.

Oklahoma City traded the No. 16 pick in Thursday's NBA draft to the Houston Rockets for two future first-rounders -- in 2022 (via the Pistons) and 2023 (via the Wizards). The Rockets then used the selection to pick Alperen Sengun.

Favors, a 30-year-old center who has played nine of his 11 NBA seasons with the Jazz, averaged 5.4 points and 5.5 rebounds last season. He has also spent time with the Nets and Pelicans during his career.

The trade gets Utah $13 million below the luxury tax, with the Jazz likely to be hit with a lesser financial penalty if they bring back Mike Conley.

At some point OKC is going to get sick of not winning and gathering draft picks that never end up leading to elite players.

its so nice to see them doing what they are doing. imagine if we didn't get that second pick and we had to swap. things would be totally different today.

I made a joke last night about how Presti secretly gets off on acquiring 1st rounders. Now I think that's actually the case. That Westbrook trade opened up the floodgates for this addiction.

its the only way they can get players to stay in utah, overpay! that's just ridiculous. makes gordon's contract look like a bargain.

I think OKC F'd up not taking Sengun. Perfect player to take a home-run swing on with all those picks, and instead they kick the can down the road again. I'd be beyond frustrated if I was an OKC fan. Kudos to Rafael for diving in there and taking some big shots.

Presto pick has a goal to one day own every single first round pick if a draft. "With the first 30 picks OKC selects..."

OKC's plan, according to many of their fans, was to collect as many first round picks as possible so that when they lose the lottery (as they did this year) they could trade into the top 3 and still win the lottery.

On paper it makes sense...but in reality, when the teams drafting in the top 3 need elite talent as much as you do, they are not likely going to trade that pick.

So if you are the Rockets would you rather have a couple more future first round picks...or Jalen Green? Exactly.

Next draft...would you rather have Chet or Banchero...or more first round picks? OKC found out it's not going to be easy trading into the top 3.

Presti has to be doing this for the memes at this point. They had to trade out of their lower picks cause they have too many projects as is. It was clear this year that no one wants to give up a top 4 for a pupu platter of low picks. We did the right thing packaging 2 for Sengun.

Agreed. It was a very top heavy draft, which might be next year too. OKC should be bad enough to get a top 3 pick next year.

Amazing move for OKC- there maybe be as many as 5 players in next year's draft better than either Cunningham or Green, and OKC will be in a position to get probably 3 of them with a coup[le of extra moves.

    Agreed with this statement 100%.

Sengun would not have made them any better in the near future and wouldn't hurt their lottery odds next season, and you have a shot of a high ceiling player panning out down line. Regardless, I am happy they didn't see it the same way as we did.

Everyone says this about every "next draft" until the draft gets closer and reality sets in.

(And most people have 2022 as a significantly weaker draft than 2021, btw)

Derrick isn't going to do OKC any favors.

Exactly, teh draft is a crapshoot, it isn't a science. It basically is being sold home let alone the fact that now with the new lottery that tanking is far less valuable than ever as well.

and a prepetual rebuilding to season ticket holders who go night in and night out is going to wear thin. The same thunder who chose harden in the lottery also chose robert swift years later.

They are in a good position obviously with a lot of options, but if it doesn't materialize with some cornerstones soon, loyal people will grow weary. We just went through one year with no meaningful games and it was so so draining and luckly it was during a pandemic so didn't have to go each night to see the tank commander do his thing. but this coming season....oh boy!

Presti just wants to seem smart, guaranteed the stockpiling won’t get them some amazing players and rebuild a team that will contend.

s like trading for a superstar except with a much better contract locked in for 4 yers and has the hype and engagement of fanbase to see how it does

top 3 picks are VERY valuable.

I'm hoping we get ours next year for Chet/Bates or thats one situation i'm fine trading our lot to get that cornerstone next year and build from there rather than prepetual rebuilds and punting

WE did our job this year, one more talented piece and like OKC coincidentally drafting KD, Russ, Harden had their cornerstone.. They sadly wiffed at the idea of paying a 6th man max, sadly I can see some posters on here really emphasizing that and not wanting to pay tax or make tilman pay when our guys come up for contracts...they regretted it, we took advantag,e they paid tax anyways for lesser players, go figure.

So now we have a foundation, hopefully more next year and we get a chance to do it right.

On the other end of this, not a great look for utah. They spetn big on their players last year including paying up for conley. Now they are pulling an us and cheapning out the roster for tax prposes one year after being no 1 and falling short? Phew. You gotta run it back, even just one year and deal with it. Favors was very tradeable tat the deadline too if it doesnt look like its going well this year too, they just took away options right off the bat.

And what does that mean? The donovan mitchel grumbling to leave has just touched its first domino. Unless they have some plan to replace the depth with something better then New age players are more in the know and they see their owner who they generate a LOT of income for trying to save a little when they know another team with a different owner will pay for that...
