I can't seem to find that quote. I'd be very interested in what he had to say about Clark. Can you post a link to a source.

How is it armchair quarterbacking/hindsight when many people were warning of these kinds of trouble BEFORE we invaded Iraq.

The warnings, misgivings etc. were all there. The scary thing is that the planners didn't listen to them. Instead they listened to Chalabi and his crew.

Can someone please explain what exactly constitutes 'winning' in Iraq and what one might reasonably expect to follow such a noble victory?

For the Bushies, winning reelection, and more contracts for campaign contributors. Anything else for them is gravy.

Geez, you are such a simple, simple creature. Bush and his evil Halliburton masters did this to make some money, right? Sure. I believe that just like I believe that Kerry is a fiscal conservative. Just like I believe that Ted Kennedy didn't let some woman drown. Just like I believe in Santa Claus and the Tooth Fairy. Put the conspiracy crack pipe you've been smoking down and.....step away. This is the kind of baseless, mindless drivel you people have been moaning about for four years. And you thought some on the right were kooky about Bill Clinton! According to your ilk, everything from global warming to your sexual dysfunction can be blamed on Bush.

Pappy, I don't really understand the thrust of your post (Ted Kennedy, Tooth Fairy, Bill Clinton?... I'm asking about the policy concerning Iraq, sorry to kill your buzz, yo), but if you could, please answer the questions I posed: Can you please explain what exactly constitutes 'winning' in Iraq and what one might reasonably expect to follow such a noble victory?

    Thanks for your valuable time!

At the very least, it appears as though we managed to turn any sympathy at all we had with Shiite Muslims after 9/11 (remember that it was fundamentalist Sunnis who perpertrated this) into a hatred with our mishandling of the occupation of Iraq. It appears for the Bushies that if you don't need friends, it does not matter who your enemies are, and a Shiite is the same as a Sunni. Credit to Juan Cole for covering something the US media is not covering at all - the turning of the Muslim world against us for doing something not even Saddam would do - bringing the heavy artillery near the some of the holiest shrines of the Shiites.

Now an insider involved in the deal alleges that the Australian-Kuwaiti joint venture was approached by a Halliburton employee seeking kickbacks worth up to $3 million during the contract negotiations. "We're not talking about a paper bag. This guy was after a percentage of your sales every month."

The allegations surfaced during a messy legal brawl between Halliburton and its former contractors Morris and KCPC, who are seeking a settlement over the termination of the contract.

Twelve current and former truckers who regularly made the 300-mile re-supply run from Camp Cedar in southern Iraq to Camp Anaconda near Baghdad told Knight Ridder that they risked their lives driving empty trucks while their employer, a subsidiary of Halliburton Inc., billed the government for hauling what they derisively called "sailboat fuel."
