I guess Garuba's buyout can be payed in installments, so it shouldn't be a big deal. Also, Christopher was thought of as a lottery pick, but was inconsistent in their 15 games this year, so he dropped. There's gonna be some good players coming out of this draft, with all the talent there is, and with covid not allowing these guys to play a ton of college ball. Maybe he'll be one of them.
A. Love the first three picks (fit exactly what we need). The 4th pick was a bit of a head scratcher, but the first 3 were so damn good it doesn't matter.
I think it’s a solid A maybe even an A+ …told me a lot about Stone’s willingness to mitigate risk in various parts of the draft. I didn’t love the last pick but I think it’s a decent upside flyer you can take when you grabbed the first three guys. Also appreciate he didn’t try to get too clever with it and overthink something. Solid draft all around. …actually most excited to see what Silas is going to do with these guys. We may not be a defensive team per se - but we will be able to score and force turnovers if nothing else and having this many rim runners makes us a problem in the open court. There is a strategy here to all these picks that I think aligns to what Silas is trying to build and I couldn’t be more excited to see that synergy.
I’m not sure about Green — I respect Hollinger’s opinion and he seems lukewarm on him. I worry about him being a 1D scorer and not much else. I’d give that pick a B and give an A- overall for the first round. Hope Green turns out to be a legit superstar, but I’m thinking fringe all-star is more likely.
I want a Photoshop of Stone on the sideline, like Morey, but wearing a mask like Jason Voorhees. He absolutely slayed it.
Whoever we picked at 24 was unlikely to make the roster. It may have been a genius stash or at least injury insurance. Christopher will get a lot of playing time in the Valley. And in the next year or two if you need a scorer, he will be ready to go.
A+ This draft, along with his other moves, have shown Stone to be.....not just more than capable, but already among the best GM's in the League. We'll see how it plays out, but our Rockets would seem to be in the hands of a man with the Midas touch. I'm not crazy about the JC pick, but am willing to give Stone the benefit of the doubt.
Outstanding draft for Rockets other than picking Christopher over Grimes. If Grimes becomes the type of pro I think he is capable of becoming, and if he is as competitive as I think he is, good chance we regret passing on Grimes. I really enjoyed watching Grimes develop and lead UH to its first Final Four since the Akeem days. Also enjoyed watching him excel in the combine earlier this Summer.
