The most important driver of this fluctuation is crude oil, from which gasoline is derived. This fossil fuel typically accounts for between 50% and 60% of the price at the pump, said Jeanette McGee, a spokesperson for AAA. In 2020, crude oil prices became extremely cheap, so much so it was being traded at negative prices, McGee told USA TODAY. Brent crude oil, for example, a blend supplying most of Europe, was being sold at $9 a barrel, its lowest price in decades, the U.S. Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported. The primary reason for this drop in crude oil prices was the pandemic, said McGee and Mark Finley, a fellow at Rice University's Center for Energy Studies. "This year, demand has so far increased more quickly than production rates, which means the United States had to draw more on its gasoline storage inventories, which has contributed to prices going up," EIA spokesperson Chris Higginbotham said in an email to USA TODAY. "We expect oil producers in the United States and globally to increase their production levels through 2022, which we expect to contribute to lower crude oil prices, and lower gasoline prices."
fact checkers take a vacation during the Biden era: In the Biden Era, Fact Checkers are Falling Short https://www.allsides.com/blog/biden-era-fact-checkers-are-falling-short
My understanding too is that pandemic caused supply chain disruptions including in steel that would be needed for new production. Those disruptions are still being worked through putting more upward pressure on prices.
For 5 decades, the orange hair piece had been spinning the lie that he was a self-made billionaire. his older sister was a Federal judge required to file financial disclosure annually. Based on those financial disclosures, NYT discovered that Donald and his siblings were trust fund babies, each having inherited > $400 million from Fred Trump Sr.
Biden’s Inaccurate Claims in Defending Afghanistan Withdrawal The president made misleading or false claims about the reaction of allies to the withdrawal, the presence of Al Qaeda and conditions for Americans traveling to the Kabul airport. https://www.nytimes.com/2021/08/20/us/politics/biden-afghanistan-fact-check.html
WaPo counted 30,500 lies. That means Trump told nearly 21 lies each day he was in office. In Biden's 1st 100 days, he hasn't told more than 21 lies in total. lol
Yes as when you are examining how much a president lies you can't analyzing in in a vacuum. You must analyze it in a relative scale as humans aren't perfect. So a raw total doesn't say much until you compare it. It's like saying someone shoots a 61% ts in the NBA. What does that number say if you don't compare it with the league average? By itself with zero context you can't tell if that's good efficiency or bad. But as a vaunted professor I'm sure you already know this and knee jerk that line as a coping mechanism when your narrative is strayed from other's relevant points.
From that vaunted "moderate Democrat" leaning Forbes site... Who Lied More During Their First 100 Days: Biden, Trump, Or Obama? David Markowitz Instead of investigating the first 100 days in terms of productivity or promises kept, let’s look at another characteristic: honesty. It is important to hold leaders accountable to the truth, especially early in their presidency. The Washington Post suggests President Donald Trump told 30,573 false or misleading statements over 4 years. Based on this number, he is clearly a prolific liar. But, were his lies observable during the first 100 days? Crucially, how does President Trump compare to other leaders such as President Biden and President Obama? I collected data from PolitiFact, a nonprofit site that fact-checks politicians and other personalities. PolitiFact has consistent standards across politicians they fact-check and will only review statements that are verifiable, give a false impression, are significant to the public, are likely to be shared, and are likely to be questioned by others. PolitiFact categorizes statements into one of six groups: (1) True, (2) Mostly true, (3) Half true, (4) Mostly false, (5) False, and (6) Pants on fire. For simplicity, I collapsed all statements into two groups (true or false). The half true and mostly false categories were excluded because they have mixed evidence (partially true or partially false statements). In his first 100 days, President Trump had 29 statements assessed by PolitiFact (17 false) compared to 12 statements from President Obama (1 false) and 4 statements from President Biden (2 false). As a raw count, Trump told more falsehoods than Biden and Obama combined. We can also look at these data as a percent of all fact-checked statements per president, during each 100-day period. Still, President Trump told more false statements than President Biden and President Obama during their first 100 days. President Obama was the most honest president in the first 100 days compared to Presidents Biden and Trump. Percent of False and Truthful Statements During the First 100 Days as President. President Biden’s deception rate might still appear high, but the number of fact-checked statements is small (4). Biden’s statement count might be low because many claims did not meet PolitiFact’s criteria for fact-checking. In other words, President Biden might simply be an uncontroversial speaker. Finally, what did each president lie about during their first 100 days as president? Biden’s false statements discussed the minimum wage and immigration patterns in the US. Trump, on the other hand, falsely discussed US murder rates, immigration and refugees, and that he didn’t know Steve Bannon before his presidential campaign. Finally, Obama’s false statement concerned US math education trends. These results are perhaps unsurprising. Politicians often lie for a reason, but it’s clear that some presidents show an early taste for deception more than others. At the time of this writing, President Trump was a more deceptive president than President Biden or President Obama in their first 100 days.
