You are right… I just assumed they would live to be really old and shouldn’t assume that. I worry about that with my wife, she has lived fast and hard.
ZZ Top was one of my wife's favorite bands. We had ticket to see them live in Charleston and Savannah the next couple of months. She was devastated with the news. Not a great evening. Sigh. Prayers up to Dusty's family and his bandmates.
ZZ Top had some of the most fun songs ever! And stories about this? The song literally got Zindler to investigate the Chicken Ranch!
Truly legendary. Dusty's partner in crime, Billy Gibbons, played in a great band back in the mid '60's, The Moving Sidewalks. I saw them several times at clubs and saw them open for The Doors at the Coliseum. Gigs like that got Billy noticed. When he hooked up with Dusty and Frank Beard, though, it was a perfect fit. Who would have thought that Keith Richards, who introduced ZZ Top when they were inducted to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2004, would have outlived Dusty Hill? Unreal. A very sad day.
ZZ Top & Dusty can't be discounted for one of the greatest musicals of all time. Soooo many good scenes, but here's one that most were unaware of.
My friend Hodges' Dad played with them in the 60's. And again, we did strip clubs. I love how Houston can be so big & so small at the same time.
Saw Dusty at a gas station when I was a kid (like 6 or so) out in Richmond. He wasn't driving the Eliminator, but it was a classic Ford. I didn't know who he was at the time, but even then I knew he was one of the coolest guys I'd ever seen.
Don't worry: with your New York brim and your gold tooth displayed, nobody'll give you trouble 'cause they know you've got it made
You made me go to Youtube and pull up a Moving Sidewalks video. Then pulled up 13th Floor Elevators and then pulled up Doug Sahm.
Doug Sahm did several things before he went into the Tex-Mex sound with the Texas Tornadoes. Sahm was given credit as the Producer on
in my early teens I was lucky enough to meet all 3 guys at Leo's Mexican Restaurant on S. Shepard in the early 80's. (and by meet I mean bother them at their table to say hello)
We used to see Dusty and Billy at Rockets games all the time sitting down on the floor. RIP fellow Rockets fan.
