Stone isn't a magician. From what I understand you would have to pry that 3rd pick from the Cavs cold, dead hands. Lets see what he can do with 23/24.
A note on the money issue. I think the SGAs extension or RFA contract would kick in the 22-23 season and would be about 28/29m starting. Next year you would have Wall, Gordon, SGA, Wood at 108m, so you might be a tax team. JK its Tilman, so Wood is probably traded. But in 23/24, Wall and Gordon fall off, and KPJs new contract kicks in (20m?), so you would still have some flexibility to perhaps add an impact free agent.
it'll be a major surprise if wood makes it through the entire season of his last year, after this coming season. He's going to leave the rockets anyway for a better team and situation that summer. If they let him walk in the offseason for nothing, actually should that really be surprising idk.
The possibility still exists, but I think Jalen Johnson will be gone by 13. The 23rd and the 24th picks could turn out to nearly comparable to the late lottery players, perhaps even better than them in the long run.
I would trade down to the #3 if I knew the Cavs were taking Mobley and we wanted Green. On the other hand, why would the Cavs give us anything if they know their guy will be there at the #3? Maybe we should have leaked more about being indecisive on our preference? Perhaps its true we haven't decided against Mobely? But one thing is for sure, I want either Cade, Green or Mobley.
I'd only trade down to #3 and only if Detroit takes Cade #1. I want to leave the draft with Green or Mobley, if we can get anything to move down one spot and get one of those guys, I'm doing it.
Right. If as the draft unfolds Barnes is there at 6 and we got that offer I'd absolutely do it. I don't think he'll be there and also don't think we are getting that offer in any event, especially if OKC can draft Barnes at 6.
Most likely we draft our guy at 2 but obviously it would be foolish not to listen to offers while on the clock. Green is not a sure thing and if someone overpays we should take the deal.
How about 1-2 and 1-24 for 1-5 (Scotties Barnes) and 1-8 (Alperin Sengun) and 2-33. Then swap Eric Gordon and 2-33 to Indiana for 1-13 (Davion Mitchell) and 2-54 (?) At 1-23 (Trey Murphy, Jr.) So Green/Mobley at 1-2 plus (1-23) Trey Murphey, and Pick 1-24 OR Scottie Barnes, Alperen Sengun, Davion Mitchell, Trey Murphey, and 2-54.
I would definitely consider a haul like that. Don’t know if I would pull the trigger (or pick the exact same players) but that is the type of talent infusion the rockets need and I would prefer to get it sooner rather than slowly over the next 3 years.
I'd entertain the trade back idea but it wouldn't be with OKC , I'd fall no lower than #5 with the idea of drafting Scottie Barnes. The preferable trade partner would be Orlando with #5 and #8 for #2. 5 Barnes 8 Sengen 23 Murphy 24 Thor If it were Cleveland or Toronto at 3 or 4 I want a future unprotected first and an early 2nd in this draft. 3 or 4 Barnes 23 Murphy 24 Thor 2nd round Queta Unprotected pick next year
I would trade down with Orlando for #5, #8, #33 and Jonathan Isaac. S.Barnes at 5, then Bouknight, Sengun or Moody at #8. 23 and 24 would be Thor and Garuba if he drops. If not a center Bassey, Queta. At #33 I take whomever of the guards fell unexpectedly out of the 1st, McBride, Mann, Hyland, Boston. Then if Tilly has his checkbook open I buy another 2nd for one of Wieskamp, Bleijenbergh, or Greek Freak #3.
I feel the same way! If I can't get Barnes, then I stay at #2 and get one of the Big 3. Of course Toronto could throw in a monkey wrench by taking Barnes at 4. I HAVE to come away from this draft with either Green, Mobley, Cade or Barnes! We need to be ASSURED of 1 quality player BEFORE we go trying to accumulate quantity!
Just a while ago we were shtting our pants, praying to avoid giving away our pick and getting the 18th. Lady fortune and da Dream blessed us with a second pick, just choose the player that we want and b done with it,
Thing about Barnes is he played the same role that Cade did offensively and he produced more assists and fewer turnovers while shooting much better from the paint and he's a legit 6'8" & a 7'2" wingspan .... Only place Cade was better statistically was 3 point percentage.
