Pelicans trade Adams, Bledsoe #10 to Grizzlies for Valanciunas, #17

I don't get this for Memphis

They get more picks and probably don’t believe in Vala (I don’t either)

 

morant, bledsoe, and adams is just a horrendous potential lineup. There better be plans on getting rid of the latter two

 

IDK but that's quite a haul for Valanciunas... good for Memphis, whatever they end up doing with all these assets.

 

I don't get it for New Orleans!
Are they clearing cap space to sign a tier 1-2 free agent to play with Zion?
They're giving up the best picks and the best players imo!

 

Memphis has no need for Bledsoe, I doubt he stays. Adams makes them better defensively but worse offensively. But only sacrificing Valanciunas(and, well, cap space) to move up 7 spots is decent(and getting a future 1st).

I would assume the Pelicans are going to make a move for Kyle Lowry while still being able to go resign Lonzo as a fallback. I think JV fits well with NOP.

Not a bad trade, not a great trade, but no real loser.

 

Valanciunas was easily their second best player you could argue he out performed Ja last year too. This is a terrible deal for them. Adams worthless in new NBA.

I thought Jonas kicked ass in the playoffs, but Grizzlies are still on a long term time frame and Jonas will not fit that timeline very well. Getting that 10th pick sounds great and it seems like they are still trying to move up. I think Adams is a decent get for them and I'm sure they'll find a sucker for Bledsoe.

 

It took me like 10 minutes to figure out who was getting what in this trade, and I'm still not entirely sure. If this is simply about Memphis moving up in the draft, that's an insanely high price to pay.

 

New Orlean opens up cap space and get out of Adams contract (2yr). They can have up to 36 million in space IF they renounce Hart & Lonzo. They could have 25 million to sign Lowry if they decide to keep Hart.

Bledsoe was an expiring contract that was taking up cap space and had negative value.

Memphis loses Val but gain draft position and an additional likely late 1st round pick in 2022. Val was one of their best players last season, but he will be a FA at the end of the year. I doubt they wanted to pay him an expensive salary to keep him. Further Memphis is said to be very interested in Giddey at #10.

 

And creates trade inflation league-wide.

Do folks rate CWood higher than JV? Assuming 100% health, I would I believe. I don't really want to get rid of CWood though. Also I guess you have to factor in that the Grizzlies took bad "bad" contracts or whatever. Not that bad though, imo... Bledsoe is only partial guaranteed for this upcoming year so is actually a positive trade asset imo...

Id rather trade EG+23... maybe that can get us GSW's #14 or something like that. The Pacers #13... that seems fair in light of this deal, no?
