If this were another college team, yes it's high profile. But Mike Montgomery has never coached a game in the NBA, so I beg to differ. However that said, considering he coached at nearby Stanford, it may bring goodwill from the fans so I can understand the move from that perspective. But there are other college coaches who have rumored for NBA jobs much more frequently than Montgomery. I'd only consider him "high profile" for the Warriors because of his ties to the area.
Muss is going to go somewhere else and be a great coach. He has to be patient and not take the first thing that comes along, the rest of the league saw what he did with the Warriors, they know he's legit. One of the interesting things I've been hearing from the tv media is how Montgomery is going to bring some local interest to the Warriors. That makes no sense. The Bay Area couldn't be more accomodating to that team, that stadium is always packed to watch some INFURIATING teams. The Warriors already have a tremendous, knowledgeable fan base. My spelling's been going downhill recently, but damn -- when you picture Westhead in your head and type "Westphal." I knew senility would set in at age 24 ...
Westphal was in the news recently due to Boston job, so obvious miswriting. Sorry, it was unfair of me. However my point was about the whole Laker team for which Magic took the 'hit' and not the other.
Speaking of the 'phal ... I'd like to believe that the NBA is a world where a head coach who doesn't cuss can be successful, but I'm afraid this isn't the case. Westphal's a really nice guy, but I wouldn't want him coaching my team. He was tres cool to us at NBAtalk and wrote some articles for the site, but both Seattle and Phoenix ate him alive. For all the talk about NCAA guys jumping to the pros, this is one NBA coach that should look into working with kids. He'd be great in the NCAAs.
I wouldn't be surprised to see George Karl coaching the Nuggets. He's really the only coach available right now that's high profile and better than Bzdelik.
