If Mobley is not a pick I will donate $1000 to clutch fans and I will retire from this website. I’m tired of Dicken around with you chicken Littles
Utah ranked #3 in team defense and has a DPY big man, and they gave up an average of 120 points to the Clippers in the playoffs. Philly ranked #2 in team defense and has an elite versatile defensive guy they can't wait to trade away.
Neither team has a center with Mobley's 2 way skillset. Mobley is already a better offensive player than either Gobert or Simmons. Right NOW, without having played a single minute in NBA yet.
Oh, I agree. The thread title is "Elite team D wins titles." Two of the best defensive teams, Utah and Philly, did not come close to winning a title. If the OP wanted to argue we should draft Mobley, he should have said, "Elite defense AND good offense win titles." But we already know you need to be very good on both ends. So pointing out Mobley as the better defensive player doesn't really help the cause. You have to show that he is better OVERALL than the other guys.
Watch a finals series, then all of a sudden finds the secret recipe to winning a title. NICE one! Good job guy.
Mobley is a better offensive Nicolas Claxton who couldn't stay on the court vs playoff teams as they went to bully-ball. A few Mobley dunks won't offset the points he gives up in the paint as he's pinned under the rim constantly. This is what I see when I see Mobley......not starting center material.
Bully Ball is real especially vs bigs who are light in the ass. Its such a sham to throw around all the sexy names when trying to compare Mobley and yet the tape does not demonstrate those opinions. Beating up on Santa Clara does nothing for me. Nothing. HIs defense faded vs the better interior players he faced this year. Why? Sure the stats are going to pop when you have all those cake ass teams on the schedule. Not Mobleys fault I get it, but damn bro show up during the biggest games at least. That Zaga game was bad, Watched it again last night and it just turned me off. Mobley just walking down the court while Timme is busting ass for easy points? Generational defender? Psssshhh. I need a baller at 2 - not a practice hero.
You can tell Mobley WILL bulk up. Just look at his brother the dude is already alittle hefty, they have similar DNA. I want Mobley’s defense on this team. He is a unique player not every team has. For that reason he will be a match up problem and a star. Specially in a few years when some of these current bigs start to age. What big will be able to hang with Mobley?
I'm surprised at your admission about Simmons tbh. But it is a bit of a low bar at the moment. But then again Mobley is nowhere near Gobert or Simmons on defense and even rebounding.
Elite D can always be countered by Elite O. Unless the Elite D also has good O. Case in point Gobert, against most teams it works, but contenders can all go small and game plan you out of the game. That's why people like AD and Giannis are so valuable these days.
100% agree.....I don't see what about Mobley's game vs non scoring PAC 12 big men is so appealing? Branden Carlson was like the best Center in the PAC 12 and he weighs 215 pounds. The others don't score much. I posted the averages of starting centers of each team in the PAC 12; all about 6 points on the average. Embiid, KAT, Vuc, Valanciunas, Brook Lopez, Ayton, Capela, Jokic, Drummond, Gobert, Myles Turner, Steven Adams, Dwight Howard, Nurkic, BamBam are going to punish Evan Mobley under the basket. Guy like Durant can at least counter that by bringing you 35 points in any particular game.....Mobley is not that good offensively. That's a pipe dream. And yes, the post up game is not as popular; but by going lite has generated different ways to get the Big man the ball while moving to the basket with full momentum. Making Bigs relevant again. This play has taken the place of the post up by bigs.....run about 6 times a game like the post up play.
People who say the post up game is dead are not digging deep enough. The elite big men are still working from the block as an added wrinkle to their game. If Mobley is going to live up to these HOF comparisons he will have to figure that aspect out soon. If he gets into the league with all this hype the NBA vets are going to put a target on his back early and it will be interesting to see how he fights back.
