I think you can be both mentally ill and a grifter in simultaneity.

Americans believe 2 completely different Jan. 6 narratives. Neither one is right.
It wasn't an organized revolution against democracy. It also wasn't nothing.

    https://theweek.com/politics/1002802/the-jan-6-debate-is-between-2-equally-unwise-extremes

    excerpt

How big a deal was the storming of the Capitol on Jan. 6, and how much should we talk about it? It depends on who you ask.

Two in three Democrats say the Capitol riot had a "'major impact' on their worldview," per a Morning Consult poll from late June, and headlines abound from left-of-center sources urging us not to forget this historic assault on the very foundation of American democracy by right-wing domestic terrorists who should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

Meanwhile, two in three Republicans, per that same poll, say we've focused on the day too much already. One GOP representative likened many of those who entered the Capitol to normal tourists. Another, while acknowledging an "unruly and dangerous mob of about 400 broke the law, trespassed, committed various other crimes, and endangered the health, safety, wellbeing, and lives of many innocent people," implied it's "hyperbolic" to label the day "an insurrection or even a rebellion."

Both extremes are wrong. I don't know exactly what the right course is, but I do know that it's somewhere in between those two poles, and that the degree of attention we've given the events of that day so far — as unsatisfactory and uncertain as it feels — may be just about the best we could realistically manage.

If that sounds like faint praise, let me detail what would have been worse. The most concrete risk was a legislative overreaction in the style of the post-9/11 security state, which would curtail Americans' constitutional rights and civil liberties on a broad scale while doing little to forestall similar future crises.

Pelosi Statement on Republican Recommendations to Serve on the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol

Pelosi Statement on Republican Recommendations to Serve on the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol
    JULY 21, 2021

    PRESS RELEASE
Washington, D.C. – Speaker Nancy Pelosi released this statement on the Republican recommendations to serve on the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the United States Capitol:

“The violent domestic attack on Congress on January 6th was the worst assault on the Capitol since the War of 1812 and the worst domestic assault on American Democracy since the Civil War. We are facing a radically new threat in the kinds of forces that combined to attack our government on January 6th. The future of our democracy is on the line. This assault was an attempt to overthrow the government.

“We need a comprehensive investigation as to who organized this attack, who paid for it, how they nearly succeeded in overthrowing a presidential election, why they did it and how we must organize ourselves to prevent anything like it from ever happening again.

“It had been our hope to establish a bipartisan, independent National Commission, but there is no prospect for that Commission at this time because of insufficient support from Republican Senators. Therefore, the House established the Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack on the U.S. Capitol. The Select Committee on the January 6th Insurrection will investigate and report upon the facts and causes of the terrorist mob attack on the United States Capitol on January 6, 2021. It will also be charged with reporting its findings, conclusions and recommendations for preventing future attacks.

“Monday evening, the Minority Leader recommended 5 Members to serve on the Select Committee. I have spoken with him this morning about the objections raised about Representatives Jim Banks and Jim Jordan and the impact their appointments may have on the integrity of the investigation. I also informed him that I was prepared to appoint Representatives Rodney Davis, Kelly Armstrong and Troy Nehls, and requested that he recommend two other Members.

“With respect for the integrity of the investigation, with an insistence on the truth and with concern about statements made and actions taken by these Members, I must reject the recommendations of Representatives Banks and Jordan to the Select Committee.

“The unprecedented nature of January 6th demands this unprecedented decision.”

CNN's Chris Cillizza calls it. It is over before it ever began:

Nancy Pelosi just doomed the already tiny chances of the 1/6 committee actually mattering

If you ever held any hope that the House select committee on the January 6 US Capitol riot might produce a report that would help us understand what happened in the lead-up to that day and, in so doing, provide us avenues to keeping it from happening again, you should give up on those hopes now. The reason? Speaker Nancy Pelosi's decision Wednesday to reject two of the five nominees -- Jim Jordan of Ohio and Jim Banks of Indiana -- put forward by House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy to serve on the panel.

No matter Pelosi's reasoning, her decision to reject Jordan and Banks, the two most high-profile Republicans put forward by McCarthy, dooms even the possibility of the committee being perceived as bipartisan or its eventual findings being seen as independent.

I mean it certainly was an act against Democracy. Revolution isn’t what people have been describing it as but by definition:

the overthrow or renunciation of one government or ruler and the substitution of another by the governed

Its technically not not a revolution. The reason for the commission and for the FBI/DOJ investigations are to answer the question about the organization and conspiracy.

So far yes Democrats would be wrong to call it a proven conspiracy but aren’t wrong to note that there was significant planning that is proven that could have had help from officials but that needs to be investigated…. Which is why I believe Republicans are hell bent on nuking this committee or at least playing the Mueller games of yelling and screaming about it enough to convince FoxNews viewers that the final report isn’t what it really is. If there was no disinformation campaign by the right about the Mueller report along with the Trump team leaking out tid bits at a time which was actually really smart, the Mueller report would have sank Trump. McCarthy and Gym Jordan know this and that’s exactly what game they are playing with January 6.

Its disgusting and I’m sure the equivocation you’ll be dropping every time Turley drops a new blog I’m sure will be a real barn burner. Can’t wait to see what kind of factual nonpartisan research you’ll be providing daily.

But yes trying to overturn an election violently can factually be described in the terms that this “journalist” says that it shouldn’t be. By all definition the insurrection qualifies as an insurrection.

Next OsTrig article headline: “Americans believe two narratives. Neither is right (according to me): No the Civil War wasn’t a war fought because the South wanted to enslave black people, but it wasn’t nothing either.”

Nice job spreading white washing disinformation bro.

...and, since gym jordan is likely to be subpoenaed for his alleged involvement in the January 6 insurrection, he may get his chance to speak *before* the committee...
