That’s a pretty negative take on a vague comment. How do you know that they’re not so thrilled with each of them that they are having difficulty deciding?
This is a tough question to answer. Many factors to consider from G-league team vs NBA team. Lakers in 96/97 when Kobe was a rookie; the roster was composed of: Player......................years experience...........DRtg (96/97) Cedric Ceballos....................6.......................................107 Robert Horry.........................5.......................................100 Eddie Jones...........................2.......................................103 Jerome Kersey....................12.......................................99 Shaq......................................4........................................99 Byron Scott...........................13.....................................108 Derek Fisher...........................R......................................106 Eldon Campbell......................6......................................103 Nick Van Exel..........................3......................................109 The NBA was not so much a perimeter game back then... Shaq, Eldon Campbell, Horry, Kersey could erase a lot of mistakes and allow Kobe to take more chances and get away with it. Green on the other hand had: Kuminga age 18 Daishen Nix age 18 Principal Singe age 20 Kai Sotto age 18 Isaiah Todd age 19 Jarrett Jack age 37 (ancient) Amir Johnson age 33 Bobby Brown age 36 (ancient) We all know Bobby Brown and Jarrett Jack can't guard players any more. Kobe age 18 vs Green at age 18/19 is not exactly the same scientific setting. Kobe had more help to cover his back and Green joined a makeshift team of teenagers thrown together on the fly. Guessing Elite team didn't communicate defensively as well as Shaq/Horry/Kersey/Campbell did as vets and set roster. Just a hunch. Players like CP3/Draymond/Wall and others can call out the opponents plays as they cross mid court. Big difference from G-league to NBA.
So I was gang green and switched back to Mobley until I started to watch Deandre Ayton college highlights. To my surprise Ayton was impressive on the defensive side, had lateral quickness to stay in front of his guy much like Mobley. On offense Ayton could knock down the jumper, be in the post and make an up and under or spin move etc. the difference is that Mobley has handles but the finishing move/results were the same. Ayton was in the post already while Mobley is in the elbow or 3 point where he takes it inside and finishes with the same moves. Mobley is obviously more skilled but to me he projects about the same as Ayton with a with some handles and passing. I don’t see Mobley ever being dominant as Yawnis I much rather see the rockets take a chance on the superstar upside of green.
I don't get why people didn't realize what a beast Ayton was in college. There is a reason he went #1. He dominated. And btw also had great measurements.
Physical freak with great feet, especially for his size, big reason why he went #1. But his warts included sometimes disappears, especially on defense. Very good, just not elite rim protector even with 7'4 wingspan. Flat shot. Not a lot of warts.
Yeah, he was great. Not as good as Mobley defensively, but still solid and better on the boards and offensively as a scorer.
Can't go wrong with either, Mobley will be a franchise 4/5. Green could be a superstar scorer. Mobley is probably the safer pick overall as he is a true 2-way player and can always be on the floor. He has a window of growth which aligns well with our building plans, we would love a high pick next year so we have that time window. That said .. Green is the home run type swing you typically take with a #2 on a full rebuild. You absolutely have to have a superstar scorer to make a noise in this NBA world let alone have any title aspiration and if you have a chance to draft that you go all in. Green and Cunningham are the two most likely prospects to fit that definition. Mobley has features you see in an Anthony Davis but that is a real dice roll, you will still need a star guard (or two) to fully capitalize, we already know where Davis ended up despite being drafted #1. The journey starts with a playmaker/scorer, build on from there.
