We need new commissioner this **** is so bad around the league its really disgusting. You watch FIBA games now and see how basketball should look like and on top of that superstars basically do what they want with no repercusions . He ****ing destroyed everything and needs to get this **** right with new generation. Arguably best new players are overseas its blasphemy to US sports.... Giannis & Doncic will run this league for next 10 years
Is there anything in the CBA that prevents owners for hooking up "friends" of players? Like giving Harden's "friend" a job or free courtside tickets. courtside tickets cost more than a airBNB for a week.
Yes, as well as the airBNB “compensation” As Larry Coon puts it, the CBA isn’t a comprehensive list of things you can’t do, it is a list of things you can do. There is a catch-all clause in the CBA and the NBA Bylaws that essentially states you aren’t allowed to circumvent the CBA just because a clause doesn’t explicitly state you can’t do something. “The league operates in a "disallow by default" mode -- actions are not allowed except where the CBA specifically permits them.” in this case, any non-salary compensation (direct or indirect) must be stated, with the possible (likely) ruling that it isn’t allowed or it counts as salary towards the team’s cap, as any bonus/compensation would, and must fit under the player’s Max or other Exceptions used to sign him. Obviously, there is nothing to prevent Harden from spending his money as he wants, and hooking up his own friends out of his own salary; so any promise by the owner to do it would fall under indirect compensation/bonus as a way to give more than the Max to a player. go here for a list of examples, keeping in mind the CBA doesn’t have a list, but rather a general rule. This list is by Larry Coon for his readers’ understanding. http://www.cbafaq.com/salarycap.htm#Q106
is there in cba explicitly stated that the owner can treat players to a meal or a coffee and pay for it ?
As I said, the CBA is not a list of things you can’t do. If it’s not listed in the CBA, that doesn’t mean it’s allowed. It’s a “disallow by default” agreement. But since per-diem expenses is allowed and food service is obviously done at the practice facility, b4 and after games, what type of dining-out with the owner would you consider out-of-bounds?
If this was happening in Brooklyn, I am sure it was happening to a lessor extent in Houston. We know Harden got whatever he wanted here, and I know that PJ was unhappy with what he was making when he was outplaying his contract. PJ would get matching RR Cullinan's with Harden (Tilly owns RR Post Oak), and he would get matching Ferrari 488 GTBs with CP3, I think I added up all of the cars he purchased in a year, it was close to 50% of his salary pre-tax, I do not think he is this stupid and I am assuming it was some sort of perk where he got discounted short term leases. I believe Tilly owns RR Post Oak and a Bentley dealership. Harden has/had a Cullinan and a Bentley Bentayga that was customized in Rockets colors. I know for a fact college players that were third string would get two Mercedes leases for 25 cents a month each since a booster owned a local dealership. If it happens in college it happens in the NBA.
CP3 signed his contract the year Ariza was a free agent. So, you saying he didn’t work out a matching Ferrari deal to keep Ariza, only doing PJ? that bastid
If they’re doing it, all those super teams are probably doing it... only way you get Uber teams. I’m sure Miami is up there too. ***** this league. Tillman probably smellin like fresh shrimp right now. He probably refused to spot Garden’s strip club fund. That pick smellin pretty good too.
I bet this all started when Harden got there. Harden is use to getting his strippers $1900 apartments in Downtown and he realized Manhattan is way too boss for his cheapness. Harden is known to be pretty cheap when going out to spend.
