The majority of people in texas support this. If this leads to widespread cases of people not being able to vote then I am sure the people will make a change. That remains to be seen.
So, if I understand your pivot, Biden was telling the truth and you were wrong or untruthful when you said... ... since its clear there is more than one thing restricting voting. But interesting you pivot to "majority of people in Texas support this...". Support what, suppressing votes? If we go by "the majority wants" then we should immediately strengthen gun restrictions, since the vast majority of Americans want stronger background checks and other restrictions. And for what reason do republicans across the country want to suppress votes? And why only republicans want this? Could it be because they believe the trump Big Lie and now want to make voting more difficult, especially for those that might vote Democrat? Isn't that divisive? Texas state attorney general paxton (when he isn't breaking federal laws) searched and found what, 16 cases? Out of millions? And the most recent case was some guy out on parole and a few months from getting off parole... voting in his primary. And paxton shows how partisan this is by having the case moved from Harris County (where the guy lives and where he voted) to Montgomery County so he could have more republicans on the jury. And it seems you anticipate that these new voting suppression laws will create problems since you say: So you favor creating a problem, for no reason?
I didn't pivot. People will be able to vote if they want to. They have the right to vote. The insurrectionists who flew to Washington should be ashamed. They are on our clock. The majority of texans agree that this should not have happened. Biden was dishonest today. This is not the worst crisis since the civil war. Jim crow, blah blah blah.
Glass houses... Here's what you wrote: . The NPR article listed a number of things. Now you pivot to ""people will be able to vote *if they want to*". The republican "big lie" vote suppression bills try to make it harder to vote. And target voters that tend to vote for the other party. That is the reason why only republicans introduced bills to suppress voting. All because of trump's big lie since there is no evidence of any reason for these bills (other than republicans wanting to grab or maintain control).
What do you want? To cast a vote for them? They can vote if they want. Most Americans have that right.
Again, there is no reason for these new republican voter suppression laws other than to perpetuate trump's Big Lie and to help republicans gain or maintain control. That is why only republicans are pushing for them.
Honestly, the biggest issue with some of these new voting bills like in Georgia aren't even the new restrictions. The biggest issue in these bills is giving state legislators that are partisan and almost always GOP controlled in these select states the power to overturn the decision to approve election results by election officials. So the approval of election results in these states are now determined by partisan lines. That is the scariest part of these bills. Let's put it this way. If this Georgia bill was implemented before the 2020 election, there is a solid chance that at the very least, Fulton County results wouldn't be approved and Trump would get his way. So that is honestly the most effective change in the bill that would provide the most tangible change.
The Supreme Court should’ve never struck down federal election oversight of the southern states. That and Citizens United were the two major blunders they have made this century.
"The Dreaded Misery Index Is On The Rise Under Biden": https://issuesinsights.com/2021/07/16/misery-index-is-on-the-rise-under-bidens-rescue-plan/
desperate attempt---using an outdated metric---to discredit Biden. "an index developed during LBJ's time", that is 60 yrs ago, when the Viet Nam war on ongoing some 30 years before the internet was invented some 50 years before bankruptcy / eventual bailout of the US financial industry the spread SARS, EBOLA and COVID virus the author of the article would like to believe that the >500,000 deaths in the US never happened, in my books, that's the relevant misery index, and it has gone down immensely since Biden took office
I don't understand how someone can claim that drive-through voting somehow increases the chance of voter fraud. By definition, if you support voter ID laws you should support drive through voting where you can show your state-issue driver's license before voting.
What do you think people do when they register to vote? You need some form of proof of residency from your social security number, birth certificate, license etc. If you ever have voted, you would know that when you actually go out and vote as you already are registered, your name and address is on the voting roll and when you go to your assigned voting precinct, they have a book of all registered voters who already went through the verification process when they registered. So when you vote your name is crossed. That means for one to commit fraud in this instance and impersonate a registered voter they have to have the balls to assume that person didn't vote yet or isn't going to vote later in the day or else it would immediately be a red flag that you are commiting fraud. Now tell me how many people think that's worth a potential 5 years in federal prison? That's like doing armed robbery of a place that only has 5 dollars where you know beforehand that 5 dollars is the max you'll get out of said armed robbery. That's why the whole voter id talking point is pure bs.
He asked me a question and I answered it. You assumed a whole bunch of stuff and typed out a wall of text. I will read it when I get off work.
Genuinely curious, wouldn't drive-through voting then allow for ID requirements? What's the knock against it if voters must show their driver's license which is already on their person while driving a car?
I personally agree that banning drive through voting is short sighted if you require an ID. Calling it Jim Crow is dumb too. So both sides are stupid idiots on this point.
The jim crow part comes in with part of these state bills giving power to the partisan state legislature in approving election results when it was a non-partisan process before.
