The #2 picks in the past 20 years: 2000 Swift -- bust 2001 Chandler -- solid role player 2002 Jay Williams -- bust 2003 Milicic -- bust 2004 Okafor -- OK role player 2005 Marvin Williams -- OK role player 2006 Aldridge -- 2nd tier superstar 2007 Durant -- 1st tier superstar 2008 Beasley -- OK role player 2009 Thabeet -- bust 2010 Turner -- below average player 2011 Derrick Williams -- bust 2012 MKG -- bust 2013 Oladipo -- 3rd tier star at best 2014 Parker -- below average player 2015 Russell -- 3rd tier star at best 2016 Ingram -- 2nd or 3rd tier star 2017 Ball -- OK role player 2018 Bagley -- not impressive but still has potential 2019 Morant -- superstar potential I don't include 2020 Wiseman -- too early to tell, doesn't look like a franchise type player so far 3 superstars (if you include Morant) 3 3rd tier stars 6 OK role players (if you include Bagley) 2 below average players 6 straight up busts
So only a 20% chance at landing a legitimately worthwhile player (IMO) over the last 20 years (Durant, Aldridge, Morant, Ingram) This is why if we were to get the opportunity to trade the pick for a young star (let's say one of Ingram, MPJ, SGA became available) you win in most cases.
Next to KD? That's high but I admire your faith in him. Mobley will fit in perfectly with Stromile Swift if we pick him
To be fair, he was always incredibly high on Giannis (tried to trade up for him) and Jonas Valenciunas (turned out to be okay). He also wanted Brandon Roy, but unfortunately was not able to work out an agreement to move up.
Good call. I do remember him traveling overseas to see Giannis play. A shame he didn't give up another first rounder to somebody drafting before Milwaukee at #16 (or did he offer as much as he could)? He did know Giannis was going to be All That AND a Bag of Fritos. Yes, you're right, I forgot that one.
I’m 50/50 on Green and Suggs. Has Beal had a bigger impact on winning than a Lowry or Billups? And I have more confidence in Suggs reaching the heights of the latter than Green scoring 30 ppg. Obviously Green has more “upside.”
Fantastic comparison except that Oladipo helps rebound and doesn’t start jogging down the court every time one of his teammates shoots the ball. Other than those additional Green negatives the comparison is spot on.
