That's definitely possible but it would behoove his agents to communicate this to Houston so they don't overpay.
Or maybe Stone is telling teams, “Gordon is a valuable part of our team. We don’t want to trade him, but we are trying to collect picks to move up to #1.”
Green may have been linked as a dark horse for Detroit, but even Mobley was as well at some point…Cade has still been seen as the overwhelming favorite to go #1…the Pistons writer for the Athletic who Pistons fans seem to hold in high regard even put it at 80-90% if they stood pat maybe they just don’t view Cade as highly as the Rockets do so would be willing to come off the #1 overall pick if they like the trade offer
Majority of Pistons fans want Cade. They are scared out of their minds that DET will F this up. With good reason.
They definitely love Cade. Everyone should. It's also possible they love Green more. I was fully on the Cade train from the moment the tanking started because I convinced myself worst case scenario is losing pick 5 and Cade wouldn't be there. No one else had that kind of narrative at the time, so I focused my watching on OSU for the most part. I saw Jalen play the Vipers and I watched Mobley in the tournament but I just fixated on Cade. Since the loterry, I've studied the top three guys a ton in the past month. I won't even go past those three because I can't fathom Suggs. Jalen Green is intriguing. I think Cade is the safest pick, I'm certain he'll be an allstar. He's a perfect modern player. He has size to play the 4 and skill to play the 1. Also he can shoot. He's going to be awesome right away. I think Mobley is the electric pick on paper. A big who can do that? Get out of here, that's incredible. Writing him off because of preconceived notions is silly. He's a unique prospect like no one else we've ever seen. But despite all of this something in my brain won't let go of wanting Jalen Green. Whether irrational or not. He has that something that worries me not picking him will bite you in the ass in 10 years. The HOW IN THE **** COULD YOU PASS ON THIS GUY?!?! type of narrative down the line.
Jamison was awesome. Vince Carter was a movement. It's hard to say what everyone will be in the end but man I don't think I would trade out of two out of fear. If Detroit wants Jalen they should take him. I wouldn't fault the Rockets moving up. I wouldn't fault the Rockets taking Mobley. I personally would stay at 2 and draft Green if he was available.
it’s a gamble, but I’m not stressing it, especially if it took just #2 and 13…maybe the Rockets see something, or maybe they’re wrong…nobody here knows exactly how any of these guys will turn out
For sure, for all we know the best player is some guy drafted in the middle of the second round. It's all an educated guessing game.
I would stay at 2 as well. But draft Mobley. Green will be a very good player but do not see generational talent. So all things being equal, always take the skilled 2 way big over the skilled 1 way guard. Mobley has the highest upside in this draft AND the most flexibility. Only player with as much upside and versatility is Scottie Barnes IMO. But Mobley is already better shooter, rebounder and is legit 7 footer.
I really think this is just Weaver posturing to drum up interest in the number one pick. "It only takes one idiot..." as they say. Unfortunately for Detroit there's not a combination of dumb GM and a plethora of picks out there for him to take advantage of. Cleveland could try but it's going to be something like: 3rd pick Sexton or Garland 2022 unprotected 1st Even that is going to be a hard pill for Detroit fans to swallow after years of suffering through mediocrity.
just my opinion on how the teams view these prospects Pistons: Cade slightly > Green/Mobley Rockets: Cade >> Green/Mobley I have Cade could be Tatum with more PG instincts, Green could be Beal/Lavine/Booker, and Mobley could be 18, 10, 3 assists, and 2-3 blocks…I don’t even think about Suggs lol
Now you're trying to project your views onto these young men. We have absolutely no idea what any of them will be. The work they put in and the situations that they are put in will dictate their careers. Mobley is awesome. Green is awesome. Cade is awesome. Any one of these guys could be generational talents if everything pans out well. The Rockets are immensely fortunate to have an opportunity to have one of these guys. This is what I like to call failing upwards.
