That's a great story. I actually felt quite bad for Maloney too at the time. Just imagine being a player in his first meaningful professional year with almost no expectations all the sudden being thrown into the starting lineup by default next to 3 top 50 players of all time where the entire defensive scheme nightly was to make you have to be the one to make and create shots.

Those were also the years where we literally wasted draft picks too. I remember we too a guy named Darrell Bell in the 2nd round who literally played in like 1 pre-season game before we cut him. Nowadays that kind of miss would get a GM fired. Makes you really appreciate how much someone like Morey and now Stone can do that front offices then just didn't really get judged on.

Then imagine that you kept getting paid by the Rockets even when you're out of the NBA

    Agreed
Fricking Cassell and Mobley are almost totally responsible for the Clippers rising from being NY Dumpster fire West
They pulled them out below mediocrity

I totally forgot he teamed up with Cuttino in LA! Those guys and Elton Brand elevated a truly garbage franchise at the time.

I still can’t believe we passed on Houston’s own Rashard Lewis, that was dumb...... We took Micheal Dickerson, Bryce Drew, and Mirsad Turkcan in that draft.... let that sink in terms of wasted pick.

A lot of fans were up in arms about that because it seemed like Rashard Lewis to the rockets was a sure thing.

Last time I checked we had to win three times to advance, not one. And Harden was instrumental in the game before that and after. God forbid his teammates actually do the heavy lifting for 1/3.

Bring Sam cassell back to help with the young guards. He would be perfect for Cade and KPJ!

I agree. But the man does he quit in one critical situation after another. Can't blame him as he is the wiser and notices an uncanny pattern of officiating goofs against the Rockets. That coupled with 'cursed' luck meant he had to leave. After reading and hearing about the controversy of Cassell and Horry comments concerning the culture in Phoenix despite Barkley's presence for 5 or so seasons, did the Rockets lack that extra effort in preparations to fully succeed in the playoffs? Chris Paul seemed to think so after being a Rocket.

wow yet it took you just a f e post to make it about tilman. I'm fine and have called it out when the guy lies to the fans, bullshits, so on and so fortht as we should for anyone. I also hope he learns from his terrible start with our new regime. Its ok he f'd it up, sarver did too and then paid big this year, got lucky as it takes , and it works out...maybe tilman will learn and pull of the same? don't know, but we keep the pressure on bc houston deserves it.

but why bring him into this topic when no one else, even ones who agree the list of transactions since tilman took over has been terrble, which i guess to you means beng a harden nuthugger fo some reason, then would this be being a tilman nuthugger?

Ha! Ripping on Maloney when he was in earshot. If you’re gonna do that to anyone it ought to be to their face. He looked really downcast when we made eye contact and that made me feel guilty. He was already hearing it from all sides but I was particularly harsh and animated and it wasn’t his fault that he was asked to do something he just wasn’t up to doing. I will never apologize for sneaking into a press conference but I got the joke. It was funny.

Ow please, he probably requested it and wanted to team up. He just wants to seem like he was never down with superteams.

I remembered Lewis was so pissed that he would make Houston pay for not drafting him. After years of playing, his anger waned and didn't mentioned it anymore.

Matt Maloney seemed like an NBA 2K create your own player being stuck in there with Hakeem, Barkley, and Clyde (and Elie?).

We really only needed Kevin Willis because of the hole left by Thorpe.
