I mean this in the most non offensive way possible. But why do all these gay players suck as players?
Because the stigma forces the rest of them to stay in the closet. Look at it this way: there are about 1,700 active NFL players. Ballpark 15% (depending upon the source) of the population identifies as LGBTQ. That means there are approximately 250 others in the NFL currently. …and yet he’s the only one? Not a chance.
I’d say playing in the NFL means you’re good at something. Would it help LGBTQ visibility for a superstar to come out? Sure. But in the meantime, baby steps. This should be normalized and there’s no reason in 2021 there should still be a stigma attached to such an ordinary thing.
Where are you getting 15 percent from??? Gallup has it under five percent and says that the average American overestimates the proportion of gay people in America by over five times the actual number. Americans also apparently overestimate other minority groups as well.
You’re never going to get a scientific number because of the stigma, it not being included on the census, inconsistent polling and wealth of other reasons. Over the years I’ve seen various numbers suggested 5/10/15/20, so I just picked a number kind of in the middle. The larger point is it doesn’t matter. Pick a number and do the math. 1,700 active NFL players. Pick whatever number suits you, and you’ll still come to the same conclusion: there are probably a lot more LGBTQ NFL players than you previously would have imagined. And it’s precisely why what Nassib did is historic and meaningful.
Well, if you were to believe Candace Parker, 90 something percent of WNBA players are gay. Could it be that gay women are more interested in playing basketball than straight women? Could it be that gay men are less interested in playing football than straight men? Oh, I know Candace Parker was exaggerating, maybe to be sensational, but being gay in the WNBA is no big deal at all. One player recently came out as gender fluid or something like that and hardly anyone said anything about it.
I’m sure her comments were tongue-in-cheek, and a play off the stereotype that WNBA players are all butch lesbians or whatever. Not worth reading into.
Oilers are trending on Twitter and titans fans are acting like they own the legacy. It’s making me physically ill.
Texans are going to go ballistic, but deep down they will like it. It's happening. And I cannot wait to see it.
seriously ugly. Fought with officers too. really makes you wonder about all the head trauma b/c Sherman is a really smart, articulate guy, beneath the trash talk.
Think it was at 2am so he was possibly drunk. Looking forward to watching the arrest video with the K-9 unit.
I'm curious the provocation with his wife. In-laws don't call 911 on their SIL unless they genuinely fear for their safety.
Dwayne Haskins was mauled by his wife. But, by the time this runs thru the lesbian filter, Haskins will likely be released by the Steelers.
