Portland has fewer people than Vegas and lacks the glitz and glamour of the casinos. Fewer tourism dollars, too.

It's too bad that San Jose isn't an answer - a larger, richer city in the Bay Area. San Francisco vetoed the move previously and San Jose lost in the Supreme Court in their legal challenge several years back.

About 20 miles apart and in the same metro area, I think you know what I mean.

agreed... hence why I thought them building it so far away from Tampa was a mistake. Its essentially Tampa's team, but playing in St. Pete.

The Yankees complex is very close to the Bucs stadium. Given that they get Super Bowls and there is plenty of land out there (along with close proximity to the airport), surprised they haven't considered building a mega sports complex with baseball stadium there. I believe their latest proposal is Ybor city... still closer to downtown Tampa, but not centralized.

They screwed up building a garbage stadium. Doesn't feel much different than a minor league game. But its hard to build a new stadium when the fan base hasn't proven they'll really support the team (even if location is part of the issue). Last thing a city wants to do is invest like Miami did.

They actually built the stadium for the previous round of expansion (Rockies/Marlins) thinking that would ensure their chances. When they didn't get a baseball team, they tried hockey there... I think they even hosted a final four... but it was always built for a baseball team that hadn't existed yet.

Its an old stadium, built just prior to the new wave of retro and then retractable roof parks. Now they want to go the translucent roof route (what all the new NFL stadiums seem to be doing). I think Tampa is a decent enough sports town to eventually get behind a winning team regularly (which the Rays have been). They support the Lightning extremely well now and they've had consistent support for the Bucs in a much better stadium location.

Having a team in St. Petersburg is like having the Astros in between Clear Lake and San Leon. Sure, there are people around there who will go to the games, but tough for all pockets of Houston to make regular trips out there.

    I forgot about Montreal.

I loved watching the Astros play in Montreal on TV with the blue tarp roof lol

If it was built for baseball it seems it was poorly designed with the low roof.

lol they want the A’s to pay $400 mill for a housing project ?? Oh hell nah

Oakland A’s President Dave Kavel says the plan released by Oakland would not work for the A’s.

He says, “we’re really far apart.”

One of the major sticking points on the project is the mayor wants the A’s to pay $400 million for affordable housing units in the area. The A’s say they cannot do that and still make the project work.

Also, the A’s say regulations in California are making it tough and they would not have the same restrictions in Nevada.

Recently, minority owner of the A’s Billy Beane visited Las Vegas Ballpark, and he really like

Most definitely. I also didn’t realize they built it specifically for baseball prior to the Rays coming into existence.

This and Comiskey park (before the renovations) were the last of the pre-retro ballparks… basically closed out the cookie-cutter era (even though these weren’t multi-purpose stadiums). They’ve since renovated comiskey to be a lot more aesthetically pleasing and fan friendly, basically for the cost of two stadiums (including inflation).

Anyone remember Microsoft Baseball? I was “drafted” by the As. The stadium hasn’t changed in 20 years lol.

Man If I'm reading this right and Oakland CC voted on an amended proposal the other side hadn't seen, that is embarassingly unprofessional.

That's a break of negotiations type of move.

Vegas is not a viable metropolitan area. It won't be habitable in 10 years because of major drought.

I also don't see Oakland ownership/front office leadership making all that much of a push to ensure Oakland is negotiating properly.

Seems like both sides are secretly hoping to move on... yet nobody is actually coming out and admitting it.
