My problem with him is that he is best when he has the ball in his hands a lot, and I don't think he is a good enough talent to demand the ball in his hands as often as he requires. If a player wants to always have the ball in their hands, they need to be like Harden and capable of dropping 35 a night on high efficiency and create for everyone OR they need to be like Chris Paul where they don't typically score as much but are incredible at controlling the tempo and the offense. I don't think that is Giddey, and he isn't a good enough shooter or an elite defender to justify relying on the other parts of his game. That means for him to stick he needs to either greatly improve or he needs to come off the bench long term.
Can't help but to agree with Clutch, and hope that some team takes him early so we get more talent pushed down to us. I will be much more comfortable giving the ball to KPJ & Green/Cade/Suggs.
Agree. He is a project. But if you groom him for 70% of the season, you might have a scenario similar to KMJ. First year stats won’t blow you out of the water, but you’re ready to rip for 2022.
I dont know anything abiut Giddey except he is 6'8 pg like Cade, he is reportedly the best passer in this draft, he is really young, and his efficiency was actually better than Lamelo in the exact same league. Lamelo shot 25% from 3 his stint in Australia, this dude shot 28%. His reps say he has been working on his shot since then so maybe he improved by now. But regardless unless the Rox trade down from 2 for multi picks we arent getting him, so it is moot imo. Unless he tears his ACL, gets involved in a scandal, or something goes horribly wrong he will be gone before 23/24.
Sounds like Ricky Rubio with less D I know at least one guy who would be VERY giddy to get a young Rubio
Agreed But if he fell to 23 or 24 I would pick him. He's got a little bit of Ginobli in his game. If he learns to shoot more efficiently you've got something and shooting can be improved with work. I wouldn't pick him in the top 15. At worst I see Giddey as a valuable bench piece. If he improves he could be a lot more.
Giddey has the potential to become Ingles 2.0 if everything goes right. I just don't think he has that OMG potential like Green.
Giddey is an Aussie and like Margo Robbie could be taking 'murrican jerbs. (kidding) Ingles was a gem Jazz found, but also in part of the development staff there. Giddey would be lucky to turn out like Ingles. If he gets drafted to a rando team, could easily end up a bust.
He reminds me of Michael Carter-Williams, though I think you'll probably have a better career. I like his game, as I'm a sucker for a large point guard that can fill the stat sheet, but I don't think he fits here, especially with KPJ (and potentially green). I think some team will take him in the 8 to 13 range, and I'm fine with that. I think the best he ever could be is a poor man's Ben Simmons.
