Hard to say that he's low ceiling honestly. Upside isn't just age (and 25 aint elderly), but it's also work ethic and he has that in spades.
Here is our new professor Chris Wallace teaching us "how to draft Hasheem Thabeet #2 while standing in water" I found it to be a great experience (Photo of Tilman on the top left of the board)
Tate is a really quality player and really like him on the team. Unfortunate that he’s going to be 26, but is on a good deal and can grow well with the team. I wouldn’t move him to trade up 10 spots, but him alone for the 13th would be a good deal. (Though I don’t think Indy would)
If you could get the 13 for just Tate you do it immediately. Tate shouldn’t even be starting next year. KPJ, Wood, Olynk, KMJ, Green or Cade. Or if you draft Mobley: KPJ, one of 3 other rookies from draft or Nwaba, Mobley, Wood, KMJ. Tate is a nice rotation piece with a limited ceiling. He is not a starter on a playoff team over the next 3 years.
75% chance Tate is better than what you get at 13. But the 25% chance what you get at 13 is better... it can be WAY WAY better... so absolutely agree.
Tate aint go no where! Take your 13 and shove it, but EG fits in Indiana like a glove, that should be enough, no more givin up picks! Bring the hoosier boy back home! pick up a turkish kid, jalen johnson boy, or whoever is clever, but I see some players falling right there at lucky 13!
You can generally project a player's career at 25. There are some exceptions, but work ethic doesn't take a player any farther than their talent will allow. Sometimes you need to trade good, hardworking players for upside. George Hill was a perfect fit for the Spurs and was a favorite of Pop's, but they traded him for the 15th pick so they could draft Kawhi. It was a hard trade for them to make at the time, but it paid off big. If there's a high level prospect on the board and the only obstacle to us moving up is Tate I'm pulling the trigger.
I agree, I'd support a trade If a top 5 guy on our draft board slips to 13, 100%. My price for Tate would be high because he is a stud!
Another way to look at it would be to ask if you could get a 1st Team All Rookie player at #13. Or how confident you are you'd get that level of talent. I'm a proud member of the Tater Wagon. Every team needs a guy that can play/defend 3 or 4 positions including running some point as well as have a motor like he does. Teams wish they had a dude like this.
I don’t think Tate’s ceiling is that limited . His age can make you think that , but he’s Plenty of things he showed flashes of that he can continue to improve on . plus , his contract is great . The 13th is nothing to sneeze at , but Tate can really play . if we trade him I see Tate following In the footsteps of roco and wood .
As in sending out money??? Cheap Ferntits thinks Cash Considerations is the tip he keeps from the wait staff pool.
I’m not going to get too excited about any of this until I hear exactly what Indiana wants. I’m not expecting Indiana taking our trash for the 13th pick.
Why are we worked up on keeping role players? Everyone is in the table until we get our building piece. Then we build around. Everyone is for sale. Wood Wall KPJ Gordon. All of them!
He can turn into a Ron Artest/PJ Tucker guy...both pretty solid til 36 So yes, Tate still has time to get better and deliver a lot for the Rockets..
Why would young good players on cheap contracts be on the table for picks above 5? KPJ, KMJ, Tate and even Wood all have room for growth and are possibly worth more later than now. We have 3 picks in this draft and our building piece could come from any of those picks. That center piece still needs good players around him to be successful.
There's no way Tate, ALONE gets #13. C'mon. I pretty much concur with the exception being KPjr, You don't trade this guy right now. He's a potential franchise player.
The 13th pick for the last ten years. 2020: Kira Lewis Jr. 2019: Tyler Herro 2018: Jerome Robinson 2017: Donovan Mitchell 2016: Georgios Papagiannis 2015: Devin Booker 2014: Zach Lavine 2013: Kelly Olynyk 2012: Kendall Marshall 2011: Markieff Morris
