HOUSTON – An attorney for Houston Texans Deshaun Watson says the NFL has yet to interview the quarterback as it investigates whether Watson violated the League’s Personal Conduct Policy.

Twenty-two women accuse Watson of inappropriate conduct during massage sessions.

While Watson’s legal team has said that some massages led to consensual sexual encounters, his attorneys deny that he assaulted any of the women.

Tony Buzbee, who represents all 22 women suing Watson, has previously confirmed that four of his clients have been interviewed by investigators with the NFL.

The Houston Police Department is also investigating.

There were once talks of a settlement, but Watson’s attorney told KPPRC 2 Thursday that there are no settlement conversations going.

“All litigation is about leveraging the other side. From the moment the first lawsuit dropped, Tony Buzbee has had a virtual monopoly on it. And every day that training camp gets a little closer, that leverage only becomes stronger,” said KPRC 2 Legal Analyst Brian Wice. “If the over/under on these lawsuits going away is 90 days, I’ll take the over.”

Hardin said depositions begin in September, but no specific dates have been set.

Buzbee told KPRC 2 last month that he plans to depose Watson for a total of 50 hours.

“I’ve believed from Day 1 that none of these lawsuits ever gets within an area code of jury. I believe it, even more, today,” said Wice.

Plaintiffs in September, Deshaun in February.

Deshaun Watson’s attorneys in September can begin deposing plaintiffs in the 22 sexual assault and harassment cases against the Texans quarterback, according to court documents.

State District Judge Rabeea Sultan Collier on May 10 signed an agreed docket control order which maps out dates for various phases of the litigation. Watson cannot be deposed before Feb. 22.

The women can be deposed beginning Sept. 13, with up to six hours allotted for each plaintiff’s personal deposition.

Watson himself can be deposed in late February and cannot exceed 48 hours of deposition, according to the docket order.

Are you an attorney? Curious what the rules are on deposition timelines. Is it the judge's discretion or is there a statutory timeline to ensure defense has time to prepare?

This was done via an Agreed Docket Control Order, meaning the attorneys agreed to this deposition timeline and the Judge approved it.

Thanks! Do you know if there are minimum time lines or is it entirely up to the parties of the suit?

Without an agreement like what they have here, the Court will issue its own Docket Control Order that provides a discovery deadline, all depos would need to be done by then. Due to Covid delays, most civil case timelines right now are being stretched out.

Given that the date is basically the week after the Superbowl, I'm assuming the agreement was made to not interfere with Watson's (potential) NFL season?

    Who knows.

The next drama is when Watson shows up for Texans' camp. What happens? Will the Texans let him in? Will Goddell put him on the exempt list?

    Get your popcorn ready!

It’s extremely difficult for me to imagine a scenario where Watson plays for the Houston Texans this season.

At this point I'd rather just have Watson be done in the NFL. I'd rather not have him out there helping another NFL team win. Sure the Texans will lose out on draft pick but more than likely they would have screwed those picks up anyways. Plus this distraction needs to stop, everyday we still get closer and closer to the beginning of the season and as of yet I still have seen no progress on Cal's wall.

The Watson saga has had the strange effect of making a lot of Texans fans want nothing to do with him… which should be exactly what team Watson wants as it will make it much easier for them to double-down on their demands.

I’ve maintained that the guy needs professional help, needs to admit there is a problem (not necessarily publicly), and stop trying to blame everybody else for a pattern of behavior that he certainly initiated (and they haven’t denied that he had sex with a lot of these women).

It’s never been easier for athletes to get taken down by social media… but they also have ample venues to rehab their image as well.

From a purely football standpoint, the Texans probably aren’t going to be true contenders within the next 2-3 years even with Watson, and his salary does make “rebuilding” more challenging. Plus his mere presence is just enough to not bottom out, which is sorely where this team needs to be.
