about 10 years ago i had a recording session and was sidelining as a percussionist and needed some bongos. found a set at cash america. one of the best music stores in austin used to be that particular pawn shop (s. lamar and barton springs dr.). craigslist killed it though.

Power tools if the deal is haggled right. They are usually good tools stolen from the back of a work truck more than likely. I have picked up circular saws, drills and even a chain saw.

Home built gaming PC that had the graphics card and ssd pulled. Was at the time a 2 generation old i7 with a great cooler, nice MSI motherboard, full tower case, two 2tb spinny disks, two dvd burners, 650w thermaltake psu, and a 22-24? inch monitor.

    $250

I've been in some, but haven't bought anything (bought a few silver casino tokens from "the" pawn shop in Vegas as a souvenir). Most stuff seems overpriced.

I did go into a pawn shop near christmas time though a couple of years ago. You would have thought they had the best sale of all time. Crazy busy. Not sure if people were buying, or pawning to get money to buy, but it was packed.

That's a carnie grift if I've ever seen one.

My friend owned a tour bus company and told me the Pawn Stars shop in Vegas was their top destination. Crazy.

I've only been inside a pawn shop once. It was maybe 2007 when I lived in Huntsville. I asked if they would buy my old tube TV and they said hell no.

It was crazy busy in there. They had the stuff you see in the show (superbowl rings, old guns, etc.), but it was a really small space. Also didn't see anyone from the show, except the guy at the door.

We bought lawnmower from Cash America Pawn about ... 13 years ago. Not much reason to go nowadays with Ebay, Amazon, thrift stores (popping up everywhere), and craigslist.org.

What kills me about some Pawn shops is their "lack of self-awareness." I understand (some of) you don't offer refunds or "cash-back," while I can only exchange the item or use the credit to buy something else at store. Yet, also have to pay for an item, which is priced at 65% - 80% of the item as it's new/newer item is priced, while I would also would have a temporary warranty and buy an extended warranty/service to fix device if it is broken or have any malfunctions. Even with used products on Amazon/Ebay can be refunded, exchanged, or given a warranty by many independent sellers as well.

The 30 day returns are almost unheard of.

Pass. There are something and traditions from the past that need to die.

Of course you didn't see the stars. They're working the motivational speaker trailer circuit. 'You too can be a pawn star'...I can even hear the Trailer Park boys episode in my head.

By and Large I think ALOT of Gun sales happen in pawn shops

So Money Laundering, Loan Sharking and Gun Running is probably what props them up
