So we all have seen Vernon openly tweeting about his dream of doing commentary for the Rockets right? If not, go check it out and also go check out his interview with Rex Chapman where he again said he’d love to do it. So how we feeling? Should he stick to mocking Jazz fans and tweet since he can say anything on there and will probably not last a game with all the cussing, going off script and just talking crazy? Or do we see this as a sweet opportunity to bring life back to the booth after years of suffering with Clyde and Bull?
It'll never happen. "Media people" would be extremely risk adverse to putting the guy who spent his entire career living up his "loose cannon" label in the booth without a delay/dump button. If you are going to dig your heels in, maybe just start with the Calvin "pregame/postgame studio analyist" gig and let him work that for awhile, and if he doesnt chase Cayleigh Griffin into the stands to pick a fight, you can expand the role to something with a little more excitement.
If it's his for the taking, I hope he gets training to work on a filter while still being interesting. He can't say stuff like Jazz fans being the shittard racist scumbags anymore and would probably have to scrub his Twitter in order to please League compliance. He's been a candle that burns too brightly and I don't want his rep to take a hit for a bad slip.
Max would get fired within a week. Undoubtedly would blurt out some profanity or initiate a race baiting flame war with other fans. Lets make him social media manager instead! LOL
Max pretty much hates the modern era of league and how soft it is. He’s made that known time and time again. He wouldn’t last a week in the booth. Much less over a day
Simply put the public climate has changed. People can curse on tv, whats most popular nba tv? its Inside the nba....not the standard variety weathermen newscaster styles of espn or anyone else. We want entertainment, think max has enough common sense to be funny and riduculous like barkley and his TX woman thing and then not be overtly offensive anywhere else. the utah ribs will draw views, boos in utah and in the long marathon of nba season will give a fun headline and hype to an otherwise meaningless game in mid season
I listened to him on the locked on rockets podcast and he was awful on the mic. I love the guy but I think he is much better on Twitter. If they are going with mad max he needs a lot of reps before he is ready to call for the rockets.
If struggling to speak words and constantly dropping F bombs is your idea of premium sports commentary then yeah he would be good. If clear speaking folk who can manage not to drop F bombs is what you view as a good commentator then probably not.
