What's so strange about identifying as Korean?
If someone knows the language, the culture,the cuisine, the history they have ties or have lived there for a while they can determine themselves and identify themselves to be whatever they want.
Self determination is a UN human right.

Ofc a part of Korean culture and society is contempt and prosecution of the LGBT community.
Some korean gay soldiers were in fact thrown in prison for performing consensual sex because "sex between homosexuals can never be consensual - only rape". So they were prosecuted for "raping each other"
So not sure if that person really knows how he would be treated if he actually lived in Korea.

Other than this thread I know nothing about this guy and don't care to know more. I will say if he wants to be Korean because of K-pop that is a pretty shallow reason to be Korean and barely scratching what it means to be Korean.

If he's willing to learn the language, the history, the culture and eat kimchi on a regular basis then I don't really have a problem with it.

 

Yes Asian cultures aren't more friendly towards LGBTQ than Western cultures. In several countries homosexuality is still outlawed including in Singapore.

In South Korea there many still harbor very traditional views on sexuality and gender and if this person is judging Korean culture on K-Pop will be in a very rude awakening given that only a minority of Koreans are comfortable with homosexuality or support same sex marriage which still isn't legal in South Korea
