    Hello!

I've been an Astros fan for almost 25 years. Have always lived far away from Houston, so never had a chance to go to a game. My wife and I finally decided to go see the Stros play live! We'll be flying into the airport on July 23rd AM and leaving July 25th afternoon. Staying at Marriott Marquis hotel and using public transportation.

    So far we are:
Going to Rangers-Astros on 7/23 (section 116) - fireworks, also purchased a Yordan Alvarez Mandalorian bobblehead as the promotion for Star Wars night
Going to Rangers-Astros on 7/24 (section 419) - cheap seats, just wanted to get back for a second game!

We are limited by public transportation, but anything we should definitely do or eat while in Houston? The Space Center is a little far away, as well as Chinatown. Any suggestions?

    Thanks!

Obviously depends on what kind of stuff y’all like, but

The original Mama Ninfas is close if you like Mexican food, it’s as good as it gets

For a mix of Texas favorites there is a place called The Rustic a short walk from MMP. Nice ambiance and good food, if you like country music they often have up and coming musicians playing in the evening

Just depends what type of thing you like, one good thing about Houston is we have an awesome mix of any type of culture you could want

Get high asf and drink some Karbach.

Then eat a bunch of concession and sweat it out.

Pre game drinks before games in EADO

    8th wonder brewery
    Pitch 25
    Truck yard
Chapman & Kirby … all winning walking distance from each other.

for food I would deff stop by at the best Vietnamese food in the H. HUYHN. It’s byob too so that’s a plus. There’s a corner store on same strip. They sell wine and beer if you wanna take some to the restaurant.

Ninfas on navigation is also great to have before baseball game, and shuttle service is free.

I have nothing to contribute but wanted to say lucky you. Have fun and safe travels! One day I'll go to Houston. Unfortunately my friends hates baseball and has no desire to visit Houston.

Shocked no one else has suggested this yet!

After we win Friday or Saturday night, take a trip down to the new hot area called the “third ward” - TONS of happening bars, restaurants and places to shop.

^^^ please don’t follow my advice/joke above unless you enjoy rolling the dice on whether you return (if you return) back home with the clothes on your back (if you’re lucky) or butt naked after they take even the last sock on your body

Rustic is a cool bar as another poster mentioned. I’d suggest on Friday getting loaded on some margs or your beverage of choice at the Ninfa then take advantage of the free shuttle to the game then afterwards going to the Rustic if the Astros win.

Also, the hotel you’re staying at has an AWESOME pool that’s shaped like Texas. It’s a huge pool with a lazy river, games to play on the huge patio (it’s 10+ Floors up if not 20...can’t recall) and several bars along with food I believe served out there during the day. Tons of people will be out there so it’s pretty much a party (nothing too wild though - luckily not some trashy college type party given the price to stay there).

I love Houston but given you don’t have a car and Uber prices being so high these days combined with nothing in town that you absolutely HAVE to do before leaving...I would 1000% recommend taking advantage of the pool for at least a couple hours.

Edit: Out of curiosity did you book the Marquis because you saw the pool or was it a coincidence?

Lots of places within walking distance from where you're staying - I definitely agree w going to Ninfa's beforehand and taking the shuttle to the game. Your hotel is famous for the Texas shaped lazy river, no reason not to post up there for awhile. Biggio's is a solid sports bar as well on the 1st floor. Discovery Green is across the street, lots of awesome bars and restaurants within a stones throw. St. Arnold's is a great rec for a brewery nearby, as is 8th Wonder.

You're also a short walk to the rail line that goes to the museum district. If museums are your thing, Houston has some of the best in the country, especially the Museum of Fine Arts and the Museum of Natural Science. Hard to go wrong w either one of those.

Well I wanted something close to the ballpark and my wife would more likely enjoy the trip, if we are staying at a nice hotel, so she chose the hotel. But that Texas pool was definitely something that caught our eye!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Definitely going to go to Ninfa's before the 2nd game and take the shuttle to the game.

When in doubt, let alcohol and your dick make the decision for you.
