The Ice Road (Netflix) - 3 out of 10. Ice Road Truckers. Liam Neeson and Lawrence Fishburne. Amber Midthunder playing the part of Aubrey Plaza). What's not to like? Well, looks like Liam and Lawrence needed checks. And not even Aubrey (the real one) couldn't have saved this movie. From the initial horrible tonka truck explosion to the horrible script, directions and acting, this one is a mess. Lawrence was smart and... Spoiler: Fishburn spoiler) left the movie relatively early (somehow getting a heavy and stiff cable around his ankle), happy to take the check without sticking around to the bitter end Everything about the movie was stupid, including... Spoiler: Another stupid scene spoiler two key guys trapped in the tunnel move off to the side to have an "important conversation" and boom, of course the tunnel immediately collapses just where they move to. No worries, they were key parts, so of course they dust themesleves off like it was nothing. OK, if that wasn't bad enough, here's another one... Spoiler: Another bad scene Poor man's Aubrey gets Shish Kabobbed through the chest by a tree somehow. No worries, it was only a flesh wound apparently. She's able to ride it out and see her trapped in the mine brother at the end. Luckily I like Liam Neesen and Lawrence Fishburne. But easily their worst movies ever.
Lion (yeah I know its old) but WOW that was great. The Father - genius movie - Alzheimer's from the perspective of the patient? So disorientating and upsetting. Hopkins deserved Oscar for sure.
Riders of Justice - 9/10 A Danish dark comedy/action flick (and potential Xmas classic???) starring Mads Mikkelsen as a soldier seeking revenge and coping with loss. I don't want to spoil this one and I strongly suggest not watching any trailers for it as they give away the very, very, very best parts. Think Death Wish with fine actors and hilarity. I'll be surprised if this doesn't end up getting remade or ripped off by Hollywood. Again, don't watch the ****ing trailers!!! Rotten Tomatoes gives it a 94% (89% audience approval) but they give away some plot details they probably shouldn't too.
Just watched Blade Runner (The Final Cut) this weekend for the first time. @Deckard now makes perfect sense. Thought is was an excellent movie. Outside of a couple areas of technology use and costumes, that movie looks like it could be from anytime between the 1980s and today. Very well done movie. Looking forward to watching Blade Runner 2049.
Werewolves Within - Not familiar with the video game it's based on but this horror comedy is pretty great. There a very strong Clue mixed with The Thing vibes throughout. It's not scary but it's gory and pretty funny for the majority of the it's runtime. Cast is great, lots of familiar faces from a variety of shows.... B+
Excellent news. I posted the trailer somewhere on here a few weeks ago. Love the cast, and I have a soft spot for good horror comedy.
Why he felt the need to make another "regular guy drives big truck in the snow and ice and gets involved in violent shenanigans" after he made the snowplow movie, I have no idea. He wasn't going to top that one.
Saw F9. You have to go in and forget everything you learned about science, math, and reality. If you do that it is action packed and fun. 5.5/10
Murder Party -- Different kind of film. Very quirky and offbeat horror Spoiler non-slasher 5.5-6.0/10.
And acting. And reality in general. Remember...this movie franchise started with Vin Diesel stealing DVDs, and now the US government is sending Ludacris into space on his private rocketship.
Oh dear god why would I do that. I can spend 15 minutes reading ridiculous reviews of each of those movies, save so much time, have all the laughs, and not watch dumbassery. It's a win for me.
Hulu original film, False Positive really gives off some strong Rosemary's Baby vibe early on and it keeps getting weirder and weirder as it goes along. The performances are solid across the board but the final act is a mess and really doesn't pay off anything they set up..... C-
The Conjuring on HBO max. 7/10. I've been in love with Vera Farmiga's voice for some time now and to think she's from New Jersey...you'll laugh later. Really good horror flick. The chemistry between Lorraine and Ed feels real, but this couple should really consider investing in a containment unit. You just can't have all those demonic antiques inside the house.
