correa really pushing himself out of an Astros uniform with his play recently. Very bittersweet. Is there any legitimate chance we end up with him? Does Crane bite the bullet to the detriment of the backend years? Tough call. I would love nothing more than to bring Correa back...b it he’s playing himself into one helluva contract.
No chance. Click doesn’t want to spend $250M on one player so even if Crane was interested in signing Correa, Click would do everything he could to convince him to use those massive resources elsewhere. Let’s just enjoy CC1’s last season as a stro and be happy he’s going out with a bang instead of a whimper.
It would he awesome to keep him but he has already left. Not giving him a serious offer before the season is why. He said he wanted a deal done before the season. The Astros did not even really try to do this. This made Correa mad and he is going to the highest bidder now. Shoulda known he would be commanding at least 200 mil (at least) and made the correct offer. Click basically told Carlos to go F himself with that offer. Then, the 2nd offer. Wow. That was Click definitely washing his hands of Carlos Correa. Its a shame.
As I've said for the last 1.5 years. Correa is getting 300 million from someone. The only way we keep him is that we offer him 300M+, front load the contract, and give him an out option in the middle.
I'm hoping Correa having a typical Correa post-season will force their hand. Another WS win will up the budget. The only untouchables on the Astros should be Altuve, Correa, and Brent Strom. Give them whatever to stay.
The resolution of this Correa saga will tell us a lot about who the Astros are planning to be, I think Correa relationship with McCullers, Altuve, Baker and general organizational stability will cancel out hurt feelings from these negotiations. He’s seen Altuve, Bregman, Verlander, McCullers all get paid fair deals so I understand the lowball offer must’ve irritated him but if the decision is solely about total dollars he’s gone. The fear is not offering him something remotely reasonable or competitive, at that point we fall into A’s, Oriels, Marlins bucket as far as retaining home grown HOF talent. A 8/240 is mutually beneficial and will encourage guys like Tucker and Alveraz to value staying long term with the organization.
How is the second offer worse than the first? It was for one less year but $5MM more per year! 6/$120MM (offer 1) versus 5/$125MM (offer 2). Carlos was well within his rights to reject it, but it wasn't a slap in the face to counter with more money.
Correa’s reaction to the 2nd offer says it all. It was a joke to him. It was for 5 mil more and 1 year less. It was a token offer that Click did not expect Carlos to sign. It was indeed the nail in the coffin.
I don't know Correa personally (whaaaaaat), but I'd be surprised if the preseason offers play a part in his post-season decision-making. He'll sign with the team that offers him the right combination of money and years, be it Houston or elsewhere. I'm sure he understands why Houston made the offers they did, just as I'm sure Houston understands why he rejected them.
yeah like we are gonna outbid everyone. We had the inside track. We coughed it up. Its done. He’s gone.
